GLENPOOL — For the first time since back-to-back seasons in 2004 and 2005, the Poteau Pirates wrestling team will send four matmen to state.
At this past weekend's Class 4A Regional Tournament, Tyler Tustin, the two-time defending state champion, won the regional title at 138 pounds.
Derek Francis (170 pounds) was regional runner-up, while Devin Anderson (120) and Gabe Sanchez (195) were third and also qualified for this weekend's Class 4A State Tournament at Oklahoma City's State Fair Arena.
Saturday night's Class 4A District Tournament title game at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse was the third time the Poteau Lady Pirates and the Stilwell Lady Indians played this year. Even though the Lady Indians played Poteau closer in the second outing, the third time was not a charm for Stilwell.
The Lady Pirates jumped out to an early lead and never allowed their lead to dwindle to less than seven points as they won their third district championship in a row with a 49-40 victory.
The Carl Albert State College softball team got its first win of the 2013 season Saturday afternoon with a 9-3 win over Allen, Texas, in the Carl Albert Festival at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
The Lady Vikings ended up splitting their two games on the day, losing 3-2 to Cowley County, Kan.
The Lady Vikings will return to action Tuesday afternoon with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on the road against Independence, Kan.
Organizers have postponed the 15th annual Trivia Night to benefit Special Olympics, according to Area 10 Director Randy Weaver.
"Due to some scheduling conflicts by some teams and key individuals needed to make this event successful, we felt this needed to be done.
"We are sorry for any inconveniences and thank you for your understanding," Weaver said.
Weaver said the annual fundraiser will be rescheduled for this fall.

The Poteau Kiwanis Club will hold its annual pancake breakfast from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Bob Lee Kidd Civic Center.Â
The annual fundraiser helps the club provide many services to the youth of Poteau, including the Learn to Swim program and much more.Â
Tickets are available from Kiwanis Club members for $5 and will also be available at the door.Â
The breakfast features all-you-can eat pancakes, bacon, sausage, along with coffee, orange juice and milk.Â

Several volunteer fire departments responded to a house fire on Tanksley Road near Bokoshe Monday morning.
According to fire officials, the home has been unoccupied for several years. No utilities were connected at the house.
The fire occurred at approximately 1 a.m. Monday morning and reignited around 10:30 a.m.
The fire is under investigation according to an investigator with the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal's Office.
Jerry Raymond Prescott, 75, of Pocola died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, in Fort Smith, Ark. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at New Hope Cemetery, Spiro. Family visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Pocola.
Lee Ben Foster, 81, of Poteau died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, in Poteau. Lee was born June 2, 1931, in Poteau to Siegel E. and Reola E. (Webb) Foster. He was retired from the US Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret “Marge†of the home; daughter, Micky S. Foster of Poteau; two sons, Donald L. Foster of Wichita, Kan., Ronald G. Foster of Sapulpa; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Floyd W. Foster of Farwell, Mich.; sister-in-law, Helen Schmid of Mountain Grove, Mo.; and other relatives and loved ones.Â
Clarence Lee “Tom†Hudlow, 55, of Leflore died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, in Tulsa. Tom was born Sept. 7, 1957, in Poteau to James “Bo†and Maudie G. (Grissom) Hudlow. He was a truck driver. Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Maudie G. (Grissom) Hudlow; grandson, Tyler Hamilton; brother, Baby Hudlow; and nephews, Johnathon Hudlow.
Mary Irene Nobles of Poteau died Feb. 14, 2013, in Poteau. She was born June 22, 1930, in Booneville, Ark., to Robert and Nellie (Moore) Phillips. She was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dedicated member of First Baptist Church, Poteau.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ray Phillips, Clarence Phillips, Roy Phillips and Argie Phillips.
