Rick Adams, 51, of Poteau, formerly of Van Buren, Ark., died Saturday, Feb. 23, in a local nursing home.
He is survived by his wife, Zenda, of the home; three daughters, Carrie Keith of Muldrow, Amanda Ryan of Van Buren and Brittany Adams of Alma, Ark.; two sisters, Susan Means of Fort Smith, Ark., and Mary Burkhart of Rudy, Ark.; three brothers, Tommy Adams of Ozark, Ark., Glenn Adams of Fort Smith and Wally Adams of Van Buren; and five grandchildren.
John C. âJ.C.â Jones, 68, of Greenwood, Ark., died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a retired truck driver.Â
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Greenhill Cemetery in Cameron under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.Â
He is survived by his wife, Mary; one son, J.R. Jones of Spiro; four daughters, Tammy Diedrich of Summerfield, Jennifer Turner of Oklahoma, Janet Taylor of Greenwood and Phyllis Hogan of Greenwood; one sister, Joyce Towler of Bokoshe, and 11 grandchildren.
Lois Hinds, 95, of Heavener died Saturday, Feb. 23, in Heavener.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at First Baptist Church in Heavener. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home.
Janice Maye Sanders, 72, of Wister died Saturday, feb. 23, 2013, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Gipson Cemetery in Bates, Ark., under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home, Heavener.
FORT GIBSON â Last season, the Poteau Lady Pirates were the Cinderella story of the postseason as they were able to get to the Class 4A Area Tournament â and three wins from the state tournament.
The Lady Pirates were hoping to reach the same level on Saturday afternoon in the Class 4A Regional Tournament consolation finals. However, a rough fourth quarter enabled the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs to get a 36-26 victory to end the Lady Pirates' season at 18-9.
OKLAHOMA CITY â Two Poteau Pirates placed at the Class 4A State Tournament, which took place Friday and Saturday at State Fair Arena.
Senior Tyler Tustin's bid for a three-peat as state champion just missed as he lost his 138-pound state title match 4-2 after winning his first two matches â a 15-0 technical fall quarterfinal victory and a 3-1 semifinal win. He placed second, and ended his career with two state titles, four times placing at state, three times a state finalist, four regional titles and a career record of 168-8.
SHAWNEE â The Hodgen Lady Bulldogs and the Monroe Eagles each lost semifinals games on Friday in the 2013 Organization of Rural Elementary Schools (ORES) State Tournament.
In the Division II semifinals, the Lady Bulldogs lost 43-37 to eventual state champion El Reno Darlington on Friday at St. Gregory's University.
The Eagles suffered a state semifinal loss to Bearden by the score of 31-25 in the Division IV boys action on Friday at Shawnee Middle School. Bearden lost to Stidman in Saturday's title game.
William âBillâ Smith, 66, of Spiro died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013.
Services will be held at a later date under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Spiro.
Louise Wann, 93, of Wister died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, in Barling, Ark.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Bethel Baptist Church in Wister. Burial will be in Ellis Chapel, Wister, under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.
The Reichert Fire Department will hold its annual chili supper fundraiser starting at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the Reichert Fire Station and Community Center.
The price per meal is $5 for adults, $3 for children under 12.
The Walker Mountain Boys will provide music for the event.
All proceeds go to support the Reichert Fire Department.
