PRYOR — The Poteau Pirates golf team will take a lot of momentum into Monday’s Class 4A Regional Tournament at Seminole’s Jimmie Austin Golf Course.
The Pirates won their regular-season finale as they captured the Pryor Invitational on Thursday with a score of 307-308—615. They were 20 shots ahead of runner-up Muldrow (635).
Three of Poteau’s golfers were top-10 medalists. Cody Shore was runner-up medalist with a 72-76—148. Connor Wheat was fourth-place medalist (77-74—151), while John Scott Sanders was seventh-place medalist (78-77—155).
BROKEN BOW — The Heavener High School track team had three athletes win events at Monday's Beavers Bend Relays at Memorial Stadium.
Jodie Hill won the 100-meter hurdles (15.71 seconds), John Enger the 1,600-meter run (6:28) and Kamber Vasquez the high jump (4-6).
In fact, it was a local 1-2-3 finish in the high jump. Vasquez's teammate, Melyssa Lynch, was second (4-4) and Howe's Alice Stephens was third (4-2).
It was a good day for both Heavener and Howe tracksters, as many placed.
SHAWNEE — It will likely be a long time before the Carl Albert State College softball team again plays four games in one day, which was done Thursday with Seminole State so that Friday’s home doubleheader between the two teams would not get rained out.
The Lady Belles took all four games on Thursday, winning by scores of 10-2, 11-3, 15-0 and 8-6.
The regular season is now over for the Lady Vikings, who will not play again until the Region II Tournament on May 3-5 at Oklahoma City’s Hall of Fame Stadium.
