Once again this week, Mother Nature was the big winner.
Thursday afternoonâ€™s games on the baseball and softball diamonds were rained out.
Talihinaâ€™s baseball game in the Atoka Tournament was rained out Thursday. Talihina coach Jon Bradberry said the tournament likely will become a two-day tournament beginning today.
Dates for tryouts for cheerleading, basketball, baseball and softball at Carl Albert State College have been scheduled throughout the month of April.
Cheerleading tryouts will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
Menâ€™s basketball team tryouts will begin at 1:30 p.m. April 16, while Lady Viking basketball tryouts will take place at 2:30 p.m. April 18 â€” both at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
Baseball and softball tryouts will take place at 10:30 a.m. May 21, baseball at Ival Goodman Field and softball at the softball field.
Fenton Motors of Poteau, the local Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM dealership, is under new management, and has committed its focus to local customers, community events and businesses, say General Manager Keith Snyder and General Sales Manager Sam Balzanna.
Snyder came to the dealership on Dec. 4 and became general manager on Feb. 6. Balzanna, who has been with the dealership since October 2011, became new car sales manager in June of 2012 and was recently promoted to general sales manager in December.
My cousin, Jason Sampson, will be my guide and hunting partner for the weekend. We are going to be hunting on Hickory Creek Wildlife Management Area and some private land.

Last weekend was the youth season in many counties, and my buddy, Dean Armstrong, took his son, Jacob, on a hunt. The day was special because it was Jacobâ€™s 14th birthday.
Dean bought a Double Cross call from Stephen Billy of Poteau, and used it to call in a gobbler for Jacob to kill for his birthday bird.
Lula Mae Hood, 87, of Bixby died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in Bixby. Lula Mae was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Picher to Raymond Leander and Etta Mae (Lychliter) Fesperman. She was an assistant postmaster in Bokoshe. Lula Mae was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, William Roy Hood; her parents; three brothers, J.W., Ira Ray and Billy Joe Fesperman; and sister, Betty Jean Bowden.
C2 Supply LLC, formerly D & H Supply, changed ownership in January 2012. The business had relocated to 602 North Broadway, Poteau, OK, across from Baetz Home Center in July of 2011. C2 Supply is a sister company to Central Hydraulics, Inc. of Fort Smith, Ark. and is managed by Gary and Pandy Gargus.
Central saw the merger with C2 Supply as an opportunity to help serve the community, by bringing more products, closer to the customer, therefore, eliminating the high fuel costs and time to drive to Fort Smith for the customer.
LaRease Bryan, 80, of Wilburton died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, in Wilburton. LaRease was born Feb. 4, 1933, in Summerfield to George Rease and Oda Mae (Hankins) Barnes. She was an office secretary. LaRease was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carroll Bryan; brothers, Harley, George and Troy Barnes; and sister, Inez Barnes.
The Poteau Chip-In Club will have a golf benefit beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at Choctaw Country Club.
The event was originally scheduled March 23, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
The entry fee for the three-person scramble is $30 per player.
All proceeds will go to the Poteau High School golf programs to help with travel expenses, indoor training facility and golf outerwear.

The Poteau Kiwanis Club Little Olympics will begin at 6 p.m. April 11 at Costner Stadium.
HUGO â€” Fresh off their ranking of No. 1 in the Class 4A soccer poll, the Poteau Pirates had little problem in their first game after being voted the top team in the state. The Pirates humbled the Hugo Buffaloes 10-0 Tuesday night in their second district game of the season.
However, the Poteau Lady Pirates were not as successful in their district road opener as they lost 3-0 to the Keys (Park Hill) Lady Cougars on Tuesday night in Park Hill.
