The Pirates are going to the Class 4A State Tournament. Unfortunately, those Pirates hail from Pontotoc County.
Byng's Pirates used a pair of five-run innings to down Poteau 10-0 in a five-inning, mercy-rule game in the winner-take-all game of the Class 4A Regional Tournament on Monday afternoon at Town Creek Park.
Poteau ends the season at 29-9, but did set the record for wins in a season despite losing Monday's regional final.
SPIRO â€” The Bulldogs are back, back at state that is.
The Spiro Bulldogs earned their second straight trip to the Class 3A State Tournament by holding off the Stigler Panthers 5-4 to win the regional tournament on a chilly, rainy Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs (26-6) will play in the Class 3A State Tournament later this week.
CROWDER â€” The 2013 high school baseball season came to an end for the Talihina Golden Tigers on Friday night with a 5-0 loss to the Tushka Tigers in the Class 2A Regional Tournament finals.
The Golden Tigers, who won Friday's regional consolation finals 10-0 over host Crowder, end the season at 17-12.
Betty Gillson, 99, formerly of Poteau died Monday, April 27, 2013, in Fort Smith, Ark.Â A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at First United Methodist Church in Poteau under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
