Paul Wesley LeFlore

Paul Wesley LeFlore, 85, of Bokoshe died Tuesday, May 28, 2013. He was born Jan. 2, 1928, at Milton to John Wesley and Ova (Weaver) LeFlore. Paul was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired auto body mechanic, loved to fish and hunt and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bokoshe. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Aileene Aary; and one brother, Jack LeFlore.

Saylor Slone Martine

Saylor Slone Martine, 15, of Spiro died Sunday, May 26, 2013, in Tulsa. Saylor was born May 15, 1998, in Fort Smith, Ark. to Edward James Martine and Charity Loggains. She is survived by her parents; her sister, Savannah Martine of Spiro; aunt, Sheila Chaney of Magazine; uncles, Joey Loggains and wife Kim of Poteau, Dustin Loggains and wife Tasha of Poteau, Jessie Martine and wife Desire of Guy, Ark.; maternal grandparents, Roy and Anna Loggains of Poteau; and paternal grandmother, Connie Brown of Magazine. Saylor was preceded in death by her grandfather, Edward Max Martine.

Three local golfers compete in 2013 Hudiburg Classic

MIDWEST CITY — Three local high school golfers competed in the 2013 Hudiburg Classic, which took place Monday and Tuesday at John Conrad Golf Course.
In the girls division, Hannah Ward, who repeated as the Class 4A state individual champion earlier this month, finished sixth with a two-round score of 157.
Poteau’s Cody Shore and Cameron’s Kody Whitehead were in the boys division. Shore, who was fourth at the Class 4A State Tournament earlier this month to be the highest Pirate finisher since Zac Poole’s state runner-up finish in 2004, was ninth with a 151.

It is time for some fishing

It looks like I may actually get to fish for one morning this summer. Chuck Restine and I are looking at going to Lake Tenkiller on Friday morning to catch a few smallmouth before heading to Pittsburg for a couple of baseball games.
Word is that they have been hammering the smallmouth, and there is nothing I like better than catching a few of those bronze beauties. With my schedule, I may not get to fish again till July, so I hope we get to go.

Judge orders Okla. pastor to trial on murder count

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A judge ordered the pastor of an Oklahoma City church to stand trial on a first-degree murder charge after hearing conflicting testimony from the dead man's wife and girlfriend.
Michael Elder, 53, is accused of shooting Gary Davidson, 27, last Feb. 20. Davidson was married to Elder's daughter April at the time.

Oklahoma doctor pleads guilty to Medicaid fraud

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma City psychiatrist has pleaded guilty to a health care fraud charge.
Federal prosecutors announced Tuesday that 53-year-old Amar Nath Bhandry entered a guilty plea to defrauding the Medicaid program. He could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Bhandry is accused of submitting claims to Medicaid for reimbursement for services he allegedly did not provide. Prosecutors say he charged the program that provides health care to the poor for examinations of up to 50 minutes while seeing patients only 10 to 20 minutes.

The Poteau Chamber of Commerce welcomed its newest member Wednesday during a ribbon cutting ceremony. RSJ Auto Repair, located at 2604 N. Broadway in Poteau, opened its doors for business on Feb. 16. Methodist Men donate to free clinic

According to Lee, this is the 25th year the Methodist Men's Organization has donated to the clinic. The proceeds are raised during the annual spring pancake breakfast held at the First United Methodist Church in Poteau.
