4 Grove residents killed in 2 traffic crashes

GROVE, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says four people from Grove were killed in two separate traffic crashes Tuesday night in northeastern Oklahoma.
The highway patrol says the first crash occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on State Highway 2 near Welch in Craig County. A preliminary report says 77-year-old Donald Charles Kelley and his wife, 76-year-old Nancy Kelley, died when their vehicle went off the road and overturned twice.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.

North and South teams split basketball games during Eastern’s 41st annual Kiamichi All-Star Classic

WILBURTON — The North and South team split the basketball games during Eastern Oklahoma State College’s 41st annual Kiamichi All-Star Classic on Saturday at Claud C. Dunlap Fieldhouse.
The South girls’ basketball team pulled off a close 69-67 victory over the North team in the first game of the night.
The boys’ basketball game was also close with an 87-83 North victory.

Registration can be done through the Internet at www.leflorecountysoccer.com.
Registration will end Friday.
Cost is $35 per child registered until Friday. Beginning Saturday, late registration cost per child will increase to $40.

Okla. session over, but health questions remain

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin gave lawmakers an 'A' grade for approving much of her agenda during the recently concluded legislative session, but the question of how the state plans to address the more than 630,000 Oklahomans without health insurance remains unresolved.

Fallin, a Republican, rejected the opportunity under the federal health care law to expand Medicaid coverage to nearly 200,000 people without health insurance, saying last November that doing so would prove too costly to the state and the country.

Area war memorial vandalized

A memorial dedicated to prisoners of war and veterans missing in action located at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau has been vandalized.
According to co-designer of the memorial, Jim Berngen, of Poteau, he and several fellow motorcycle riders, visited the site Sunday and all was fine. They returned on Monday to find damage done to the tribute. The group found what looked like bullet holes in the soldier and the headstone.
Police were notified of the vandalism and are currently investigating the crime.

Man arrested after crashing car at Tulsa airport

TULSA (AP) — Authorities say a man has been arrested after crashing his car through a fence at Tulsa International Airport.
Police say the incident began late Monday when an officer noticed a stolen vehicle at a nearby motel. Tulsa television station KTUL reports (http://bit.ly/ZqvxOs ) a man saw the police officer in the motel parking lot, jumped in the car and sped away.
Authorities say the pursuit ended when the man crashed the car into a fence near the south end of the airport. He was arrested shortly after the crash.

Girl Scouts lend a helping hand

Girl Scout Troop 4408 from Monroe helped Mercy Fort Smith co-workers in gathering and sorting out donations for the Tornado Relief Drive for Moore last Friday, May 24th. They would like to thank Ms. Cristelyn of Mercy Hospital for giving them a chance to volunteer.

Ronnie Vern Bastress, 69, of Poteau died Thursday, May 23, 2013, in Fort Smith, Ark. Ronnie was born Oct. 22, 1943, in Buena Park, Calif. to Robert and Dolly (Shewe) Hardman. She was a legal secretary and a psychiatric technician. She was preceded in death by her parents.
