The Red Oak Committee for Continued Growth (ROCCG) has finalized the plans for the 14th Annual Red Oak Independence Day Celebration.
The theme for the three days of activities is Saluting our Heroes.
Activities will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at the Red Oak Baseball Field with a community worship service. A patriotic program will follow, which will include a variety of talent.
Radley is a six year old boy from Hartford, Ark., who has a rare form of cancer.Â He is being treated in Little Rock. In addition to the medical expenses, travel expenses just add to the heavy burden the family is facing at this time.Â Please open your hearts to them and help us make this benefit a big success. Orville Plummer Jr., 75, of Spiro died Tuesday, June 25. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, in Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Spiro City Cemetery. An online guest book is available at www.mallorymartinfuneralhome.com.
Burnice Jeraldine Gwin, 85, of Fort Smith, Ark., formerly of Poteau, died Friday, June 21, 2013, in Fort Smith. Burnice was born Dec. 27, 1927 in Buckland, Mo. She was a nurse. Burnice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Gwin; brothers, Roy, Russell and Robert King; and sister, Ruby Vincent.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ivan and Teresa Foxworthy of Fort Smith; grandchildren, Shelley and David Dennis of Poteau, Frank Stockton of Fort Smith, Clint Stockton of Pocola; nine great-grandchildren; other relatives and loved ones; many friends.
J. Wilbert Adams, 93, of Wister, died Friday, June 21, 2013, in Belton, Texas. J. was born May 22, 1920 in Dardanelle, Ark., to Robert and Bertha (Merrell) Adams. He was the owner-operator of Wister Lumberyard. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bobbie Adams; son, Don Adams; daughter, Betty Adams; and siblings, David and Willard Adams, Lois Woods, Doris Marler.
