Fishing, baseball are on deck

June is coming to a close, and it is finally time for my family to do some fishing — since we will actually have a few days off from the gym or ballfield.
The boys and I want to do some float fishing soon, and I am actually going to be able to get my boat on the water for the first time this year. Cash is really looking forward to it. However, his exact words were: “By the time we get to fish, it will be too hot — and they won’t be biting anymore.” I hope that isn’t true.
My buddy, Chuck Restine, and his son, Dawson, have been tearing up the bass tournaments lately.

(AP) — The U.S. Supreme Court's decision to leave the ultimate placement of a 3-year-old girl in an American Indian child welfare case to a state court extends the custody dispute and the anguish for both her biological father and the couple who raised her for the first two years of her life.

Area students attend Oklahoma Girls State

High school senior girls from LeFlore County joined 416 young women from across the state selected to attend the 72nd annual session of Oklahoma Girls State, hosted at the University of Oklahoma from May 26 through June 1.

Cusick charged with murder in the first degree

June 26, 2013

Spiro man suspected of beating and burning his girlfriend to death has been charged with first-degree murder.
Elec E. Cusick, 39, of Spiro has been incarcerated since he was arrested Jan. 24 after being released from a Tulsa hospital for injuries he received during a fire at his home. His girlfriend, Myrtle Cooper, 47, of Spiro, was injured in the incident and later died on March 14 in a Tulsa hospital.

Any church that is interested in playing at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex this summer needs to contact Billy Bond at (918) 647-1939.
The entry fee is $400 per team. Deadline to entry is today. League will begin play on July 8 or 9.
