Francis Beatrice “Bea” Winton, 81, of Talihina died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, in Colbert.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at Falfa Baptist Church. Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.

Last chance to Walk, Run or Dye

Time is running out before the start of the Walk, Run and Dye event held in Poteau Saturday morning.
The 5K walk/run begins at 10 a.m. in front of Poteau City Hall. Registration ends at 9 a.m.
Spectators are encouraged and vendors will be on site providing food, drinks and snacks.
There will be no parking at the City Hall parking lot or along Dewey Avenue, where the course will be marked. Parking will be available at the Donald W. Reynolds Center and other public parking areas around the starting point.

Cameron man arrested after alleged manhunt

A Cameron man who was arrested about 10 months ago after allegations of committing a sex crime against a 15-year-old is back behind bars after leading police on a manhunt.
Johnny Carter, 72, was reportedly a bus driver and coach at Union Christian Academy in Fort Smith when the incident allegedly occurred.
In November 2012, Carter was booked into the Sebastian County (Ark.) Detention Center on fourth-degree sexual assault charges in connection with the allegations, according to jail records. He was later released after posting $10,000 bail.

Duck Dynasty, Jimmy Houston guest speakers at Men's Retreat

Two members of TV's Duck Dynasty family and professional angler Jimmy Houston will be among speakers at the upcoming Kiamichi Men's Retreat, sponsored by the LeFlore Baptist Association.
Houston is scheduled to speak at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, and Duck Dynasty's Jeb and Al Robertson are slated at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. Brad Clayhost of Final Descent Outdoors also will be on hand Friday.
Organizers said about 200 tickets remain available for the “Living Your Life on Target” event at Kiamichi Baptist Assembly at Talihina.

Spiro travels to meet Muldrow tonight in battle of Bulldogs

There will be one thing for sure when Spiro's football team travels to meet Muldrow in a 7:30 p.m. contest tonight. The Bulldogs will get their first win of the season. The only question which won't be answered until about late news time tonight is which Bulldogs.
Spiro (0-1) is coming off a 32-14 loss to the Vian Wolverines in a game which was close for about a half.

Talihina to meet much improved Antlers Bearcats tonight

Things could not have started much better than they did for the Talihina Golden Tigers football team Friday night as they blasted the Wilburton Diggers 70-22 at Doc Robinson Stadium in the season opener.
“We were awesome on offense,” Talihina coach Kelly Gravitt said. “We made our blocking assingments. We were physical and got after it. Our defense was sound. They did a great job, and it was a great opener. They didn't look like it was a Week 1 game. They looked sharp. It was a good game for us.”

Here comes Dr. Adams to the rescue

On Sept. 5, I went to Dr. Scott Clark's office to get some lab work done to make sure I'm in peak condition.
I was out in the parking lot, and I was looking at this nice ol' 1983 Kingfisher bass boat that was parked in the lot. It looked brand spanking new. I couldn't believe how new it looked. I was rubbing my hand across the carpet in a daze when I walked into Mike Sullivan, who said, “Isn't that a nice one? I used to have one just like her!”
