Freshmen Pirates' strong second-half surge falls short

September 8, 2013

The majority of the 2013 freshmen Poteau Pirates have played together for six years now, and they have had their share of hard knocks. Thursday night's season opener at Costner Stadium was played in two phases.
The McAlester Buffaloes easily stampeded the Pirates by the score of 21-0 in the first half, but the Pirates must have been been watching old game film and reading the press clipping of previous freshmen teams. Even though they could only score eight points, the Pirates held the ball for all but four plays. The final score was McAlester 21, Poteau 8.
