TALIHINA â€” Talihina started the season with an impressive 70-22 win over the Wilburton Diggers on Friday night at Doc Robinson Stadium as the Golden Tigers ran hard, passed well and outran the Diggers 46-8 in the first half.
Wilburton scored eight points with a minute left in the first half after a fumble by the second-string quarterback of Talihina.
PANAMA â€” Things could not have gone any better for the Panama Razorbacks football team in Thursday night's season opener against the Gore Pirates.
First off, earlier in the week, the game was moved to George Ollie Stadium from Gore due to its football field not being ready to have the game played there.
Then, the Razorbacks scored just 13 seconds into the game and never really looked back as they blanked the Pirates 34-0.
HOWE â€” The Cameron Yellowjackets baseball team advanced to Saturday afternoon's championship semifinals of the Howe Wood Bat Tournament with a 10-0 win over the Whitesboro Bulldogs on Thursday afternoon.
The host Lions suffered a 12-2 loss to the Smithville Braves in the game immediately following.
The â€™Jackets and the Braves will play at 3:15 p.m. Saturday in the championship semifinals, with the winner playing for the title at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Cameron-Smithville loser will play for third place at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Betty Jo Gibson, 80, of Leflore died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, in Durant. Betty was born Nov. 1, 1932, in Leflore to Oscar and Josie (French) Baxter. She was a homemaker. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milo; daughter, Sherry Hollan; sisters, Mildred Wilson and Florene Pruitt; nephew, Sam Baxter; and niece, Pam Nichols. She loved flowers, raising kids and cooking. She always kept everyone in line.
Shawna Ward Williams, 47, of Barling, Ark., died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, in Barling.
A memorial service was held Friday, Sept. 6, at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel, Heavener.
LaFaye Fesperman, 77, of Bokoshe died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Old Bokoshe Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Spiro.
The Poteau Chamber of Commerce is expected to move into the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center in the next few months, according to chamber Executive Director Karen Wages.
The move is part of a deal with the city allowing the chamber to manage the facility.
The City Council voted this week to offer the management contract to the chamber. Chamber directors are expected to vote on the contract at noon Tuesday.
The center and chamber will remain separate entities, but wil share staff and space, Wages said.
"There will be some rebranding," she said.
In an ongoing effort to ensure the safety of students Poteau Primary School has devised a new procedure for afternoon student pickup.
