This week is already off to a good start for the Panama Razorbacks football team, and the Hogs haven't opened their 2013 season.
The Razorbacks were supposed to open the season at 7:30 p.m. Thursday on the road against the Gore Pirates. However, since Gore's field is not ready, the game will take place at George Ollie Stadium.
“It's a big plus for us,” Panama coach Brandon Ellis said. “It's good for our fans, our boosters, concessions and gates. It's big to have six home games this year.”
The players were really enthusiastic about the news.
Arkoma football coach Mark Weatherton could not more pleased with the shape of his team as his Mustangs begin the 2013 season at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mustang Field against the Keota Lions.
“I think we're where we want to be,” he said. “I think offensively we played better Friday night [against Gans and Watts]. Defensively, we're still solid. We had a few mistakes here and there, but it's nothing that we can't correct in practice. Our scrimmage really went well. We're ready to go at it on Friday night.”

Before I get started, the want to answer that trivia question I gave you all an extra week to ponder. The question was who is the only person to win a championship in two different sports? Gene Connelly won a championship in the National Basketball Association and with the Milwaukee Braves (who are, of course, now in Atlanta).
