Wister girls beat Tushka to reach consolation finals, but Wildcats lose to Antlers; remainder of Pick and Shovel Classic postponed due to weather issues

HARTSHORNE — The Wister Lady Wildcats bounced back from Tuesday night's loss to Antlers to beat the Tushka Lady Tigers 35-29 in the consolation semifinals of the Pick and Shovel Classic.
The news wasn't as good for the Wildcats, who lost 41-26 to the Antlers Bearcats in the championship semifinals.
However, the rest of the tournament has been postponed due to the icy weather conditions that will be present the rest of the week.

Weather cancels remaining basketball games for week

Not only were the high school football playoffs affected by this week's icy weather, so, too, was the hoop schedule.
The rest of the week's slate of basketball games have been canceled or postponed due to inclement weather conditions.
The Poteau Lady Pirates will have to wait until next week to open their season as this week's Southeast Oklahoma Shootout at McAlester's Southeast Expo Center was postponed and may not be rescheduled. They will open their season next week in the Wilburton Tournament.

Arkoma teams beat Whitesboro to make Blue Bracket title games; rest of EOSC Classic canceled this week due to inclement weather

WILBURTON — A pair of LeFlore County basketball schools, Arkoma and Whitesboro, met each other on the hardwood Wednesday in the Eastern Oklahoma State College Classic at EOSC's Claud C. Dunlap Fieldhouse. It was an Arkoma sweep.
The Mustangs edged the Bulldogs 48-45 and the Lady Mustangs were too much for the Lady Bulldogs in a 53-31 victory in championship semifinals in the Blue Bracket.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving day holiday. We did at “The Adams' Family Compound.”
I went to Walmart that night for its Black Friday sale, and it was crazy. Everybody was on edge. I was just going in with everybody, having fun and trying to “lighten” the mood, and some woman didn't like me too much. She started to come after me, but they talked her out of it. I dodged a bullet, and I was spared the embarrassment of being beaten up by a woman in front of Walmart.

Oklahoma Emergency Price Stabilization Act is in Effect for all 77 Oklahoma Counties

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma’s Emergency Price Stabilization Act is now in effect for 77 Oklahoma counties after Gov. Mary Fallin declared a state of emergency due to the winter weather that started Thursday morning.

All 77 counties are included in the declaration.

Attorney General Scott Pruitt said Oklahoma’s price gouging statute prohibits an increase of more than 10 percent in the price of most goods and services when a state of emergency has been declared.

Choctaw Nation offers assistance

The PDN received this press release from the Choctaw Nation rgarding the winter storm:

As the winter storms are pushing their way through Southeast Oklahoma, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is taking measures to offer assistance to the affected communities and Tribal Members. We have been working with the local County and City Emergency Managers in a joint effort to provide assistance where needed.

Ice storm weighs in

As the winter storm continues to rage across the county ice accumulations on electric lines and trees thickens. Northwest of Cameron some trees, mainly Cedar already are unable to hold the weight of the ice and limbs are touching the ground.

HARTSHORNE — The Wister Wildcats got their first victory of the basketball season Tuesday night, edging the Oktaha Tigers 47-43 in the opening round of the Pick and Shovel Classic.
The ’Cats were slated to play Antlers on Wednesday night in the championship semifinals.
Pocola 58, Stigler 44: In Stigler, the Indians got their season off to a good start with a comeback win.
Trailing 10-9 after a period, the Indians outscored the Panthers 19-16 in the second quarter to take a 28-26 lead at halftime. Then, Pocola outscored Stigler 30-18 in the second half.

PANAMA — Stephanie Barcheers hit two free throws with 5.9 seconds left to play to lift the Panama Lady Razorbacks to a 50-49 victory over the Keota Lady Lions on Tuesday night.
Heavener 60, Western Yell County, Ark., 39: In the Gary Ford Invitational in Hartford, Ark., the Lady Wolves got their season off on the right foot with a come-from-behind win.
Trailing 33-29 after three periods, Heavener outscored Western Yell County 30-6 in the fourth quarter to get the comeback victory for the Lady Wolves, who played in the championship semifinals Wednesday night.
