Of all the accolades that have come to Carl Albert State College baseball coach Mark Pollard over his three decades, there was one which still eluded the program — until now.
For his defensive prowess last season, Red Oak sophomore pitcher Dwight Camp was named one of nine Golden Glove Award winners in NJCAA Division II baseball.
HEAVENER — What looked like a playoff-clinching victory on a rainy, cold Tuesday night at Harvey Stadium for the Heavener Wolves soccer team turned into heartbreak.
A late goal by the visiting Fort Gibson Tigers forced overtime, and then they won it in overtime by a score of 2-1 to dash any playoff aspirations the Wolves had.
The girls contest was all Lady Tigers, as No. 2 Fort Gibson beat the Lady Wolves 8-1.
INOLA — The Poteau Lady Pirates track team placed second with 68 points, well behind meet champion Vinita (172.5 points), in Friday's Inola Invitational. Spiro's girls scored 12 points to come in 16th, while Talihina was 22nd with four points.

Youth season was last weekend, and several area kids took advantage of the opportunity.
I do have to mention that turkey season opened up Monday for us older folks. I am looking forward to heading to my lease at Clayton to chase some gobblers around.
My good buddy Dan Carter is going to join me and Butch Parks for a little camping and hunting on Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully, I will have some pictures and stories next week.

Billy George Davis, 80, of Bokoshe died Monday, April 22, 2013. Services were held Wednesday, April 24, at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Spiro with burial in Old Cache Cemetery at Keota.

LeFlore County Emergency Medical Services has continued to grow since its inception in 1976. The service has seen expansion from a single ambulance with the administrative office located in the LeFlore County Courthouse to its current size of five stations and a fleet of eight ambulances and two quick-response emergency vehicles.
With a new home in Poteau completed a decade ago, the stations located in Spiro, Pocola and Heavener since have had a makeover from small homes or single-wide trailers to modern stations.

MUSKOGEE — The bad news was the Poteau Lady Pirates golf team did not sweep the titles at the Class 4A Regional Tournament, which took place Tuesday at Cobblestone Golf Course. The good news is that the Lady Pirates will still have a shot at defending their Class 4A state title.
The Lady Pirates were regional runners-up with a 368, finishing behind regional champion and host Hilldale (348).
Defending individual state champion Hannah Ward was regional runner-up with a 76. She finished a stroke behind regional champion, Hilldale's Courtney Cunningham (75).
