The Poteau Pirates may not have the chance to go undefeated at 5-0 in their own Wood Bat Festival. The Pirates were supposed to have played Fort Smith (Ark.) Northside Friday afternoon, but the game was postponed due to rain and will not be made up.
On a chilly and rainy Thursday at Town Creek Park, the Pirates picked up wins No. 3 and 4 in the festival, blanking the Plainview Indians 3-0 then posting a 10-2, five-inning, run-rule win over the Seminole Chieftains.
CAMERON â€” It was a rough day for LeFlore County teams at this site of the Poteau Wood Bat Festival on Wednesday. Only the Pocola Indians posted a victory, downing Mansfield, Ark., 6-1.
The other three teams took it on the chin. Mansfield outlasted Panama 13-10, Cameron suffered a 15-4 loss to Eufaula and Heavener fell 12-2 to Sallisaw-Central.
The Razorbacks and the Yellowjackets were to have played Smithville on Thursday in the final two games of the last day of action at this site, but Smithville did not show.
BROKEN BOW â€” The Talihina Golden Tigers lost 7-3 to the host Broken Bow Savages in the championship game of the Broken Bow Tournament on Wednesday.
The Golden Tigers ended pool-play action undefeated with a 7-2 win over Stilwell and an 11-3 run-ruled victory over Idabel on Tuesday.
The Cameron Lady Yellowjackets softball team had its three games rained out Thursday at the Red Oak Festival.
The games have not been rescheduled at this time, and there is a strong likelihood that they will be canceled altogether.
A head on collision occured on Oklahoma Highway 112 near Smart Mart Store three miles east of Poteau at approximately 7 p.m.
According to emergency personnel on the scene, several people were injured in the accident. All the accident victims were taken by LeFlore County Emergency Medical Services to Fort Smith hospitals where a passenger from a silver PT Cruiser involved in the accident later perished from injuries. One person refused medical treatment.
The Leflore County Bass Club's latest tournament of the 2013 circuit took place Saturday at Highway 9 East on Lake Eufaula. There were 34 boats with 60 anglers who caught a combined total of 74 fish with a total weight of 213.28 pounds. Each fish averaged 2.88 pounds, and eight limits were caught.
Keith Griffith and Gary Steelman had the winning stringer with 24.7 pounds to earn $750.

As I wrote this week's column, my wife, Paula, and I are in Tennessee on Spring Break vacation with Cash and his buddy, Jeffery Morris. Our first stop was near Dover which is just south of â€śThe Land Between the Lakesâ€ť [LBL] as it's called. This is a piece of land between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley.

Services are planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau.Â Burial will be in Hontubby Cemetery under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
