TAHLEQUAH â The Poteau Pirates wrestling team got a huge dual win Thursday night as the Pirates upset Class 5Aâs eighth-ranked team, the Tahlequah Tigers, by a score of 40-36.
The Pirates (11-4 in dual meets this season) got pins from Devin Anderson (120 pounds), Will Longenbaugh (126), Derek Francis (170), Khy Mote (182), Gabe Sanchez (195) and Daylon Brewton (heavyweight). It was Brewtonâs match that decided the meet as Poteau trailed 36-34 going into the battle of heavyweights.
LONE GROVE â After losing opening-round games on Thursday, the Talihina High School basketball teams both bounced back with consolation semifinals wins in the Lone Grove Invitational on Friday at the Gary Scott Center.
The Golden Tigers got past the Comanche Indians 65-47 to make it to the consolation finals at 2:30 p.m. Saturday against Marlow.
The Lady Golden Tigers preceded their male counterparts with a 64-44 rout of the Comanche Lady Indians. Talihina will meet tournament-host Lone Grove at 1 p.m. Saturday in the consolation finals.
McCURTAIN â The Bokoshe High School basketball teams split their Green Valley Conference road games Thursday night with McCurtain. The Lady Tigers handled the Lady Bulldogs 44-40, but the âDogs were too much for the Tigers in a 68-24 win.
HOWE â This afternoon's fifth-place games filled their slots on Thursday at the 2013 LeFlore County Junior High Tournament.
On the girls side, the Poteau/Pansy Kidd Middle School Lady Raiders defeated the Hodgen Lady Bulldogs 29-26, while the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers had to go overtime before knocking off the Heavener Lady Wolves 30-26.
PKMS and Talihina will be the first game of Championship Saturday as they will meet for fifth place at 1 this afternoon at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
MONROE â Four county teams, both Panama squads, the Bokoshe Lady Tigers and the Arkoma Mustangs, made it to Friday's consolation finals with victories Thursday at the Monroe gym in the 2013 LeFlore County Junior High Tournament.
The Lady Razorbacks posted a 46-37 win over the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets, while the Lady Tigers were too much for the Leflore Lady Savages in a 50-38 victory.
On the boys side, the Razorbacks edged the Bokoshe Tigers 38-37, while the Mustangs took a 23-17 halftime lead and were able to keep the Whitesboro Bulldogs at bay for a 47-33 win.
Sunday Couple Scrambles at Wolf Ridge Golf Course will take place at 2 p.m. Sundays.

After three days of trial in the District Court of LeFlore County, a Monroe man accused of child sexual abuse has been rendered a verdict by a jury of his peers.
James Haskin Jr., 61, of Monroe was charged with nine counts of child neglect and three counts of child sexual abuse.
The trial began Wednesday morning and by Friday at 3:30 a jury of seven men and five women found Haskin guilty of all charges.
James Haskin has been found guilty on nine counts of child neglect and three counts of child sexual abuse.
PDN Reporter Kim Ross reports that the jury has found Haskin guilty on all 12 counts and suggested a sentence of 245 years in prison.
The PDN has just received word that the jury in the James Haskin trial has just begun deliberation.
Sources say that Haskin's attorney called no witnesses in his defense.
