Bokoshe looks for first district win tonight to end season on high note; Tigers travel to Yukon to meet SW Covenant

November 8, 2013

All the Bokoshe Tigers football team wants is a District C-4 win before 2013 comes to and end. Tonight will be their last shot when the Tigers (1-7 overall, 0-6 in district play) make the long journey to Yukon to meet the Southwest Covenant Patriots (3-4, 3-3) at 7:30 p.m.
“It would be big for our four seniors to go out with a district win,” Bokoshe coach Bryan Murray said. “The kids have worked hard all year long and have improved themselves. I do see better things down the road, but to win a district game in as tough a district as we're in it would be big.”

Pocola looks to end season with road win tonight at Mountainburg

November 8, 2013

A sports adage says that only one team can win its final game — the one that wins a state championship.
While there's no state championship at stake tonight when the Pocola Indians (2-7) travel to meet Mountainburg, Ark., to end their season, they can win their final game — which would be huge for the program.

Arkoma seeks home playoff game with win Friday night over Webbers Falls Warriors

November 7, 2013

The adage, “The shortest distance between two points is a straight line,” somewhat holds true Friday night for the Arkoma Mustangs football team.
The Mustangs (5-3 overall, 4-2 in District C-4) can have a home playoff game with a win Friday night against the Webbers Falls Warriors (4-4, 3-3) when they meet for Senior Night at 7:30 p.m. at Mustang Field. However, if a loss occurs, then Arkoma's playoff scenario becomes much more complicated.

Spiro goes for nine straight wins, perfect district record Friday night against Checotah

November 7, 2013

The only blemish on the Spiro Bulldogs' football season this year was a 32-14 season-opening loss to the Vian Wolverines. The ’Dogs hope it stays that way tonight.
The Bulldogs (8-1, 6-0 in District 3A-8) will travel to meet the Checotah Wildcats (8-1, 5-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Ogle Field. If Spiro wins, the ’Dogs will be the district champion outright and get two home playoff games. A loss may deny them a home playoff game altogether.

Poteau Pirates seek No. 1 seed tonight, face Tulsa Rogers

November 7, 2013

The Poteau Pirates football team can taste a share of a District 4A-4 crown, and a home playoff game. Both will be achieved tonight if the Pirates (8-1 overall, 5-1 in district play) can knock off the Tulsa Rogers Ropers (3-6, 1-5) when they meet at 7 tonight at Tulsa's S.E. Williams Stadium in the regular-season finale.

Panama goes for upset of No. 3 Vian tonight

November 7, 2013

The Panama Razorbacks football team went 0-17 from the start of the 2010 season to its Week 8 victory over archrival Pocola in 2011. Now, the Hogs have a shot a piece of the District 2A-6 crown.
The Razorbacks (7-2 overall, 4-1 in district play) will travel to meet Class 2A's third-ranked Vian Wolverines (9-0, 5-0) at 7:30 tonight.
“The kids are excited,” Panama coach Brandon Ellis said. “They're on a four-game winning streak. They've got a lot of confidence. They're playing better ball right now. We're completely healthy. They're excited about this week.”

Time to get the bow out again

November 7, 2013

Primitive arms (muzzle loader) season has come and gone, and I did not get to fire a shot from my smoke pole. I did find some good buck signs, so I plan to take my bow out to those areas and try to stick one.
I have to admit that archery is my favorite kind of hunting, and I am excited to get back in the stand with my Mathews. This coming weekend is usually one of the best times to encounter a buck chasing does. If you have the patience to sit all day… these next two weeks will be the time to do it.
