Panama blanks Pocola in rivalry game

POCOLA — The Panama Razorbacks extended their three-game winning streak over the Pocola Indians with a 35-0 shutout Friday night on a sloppy John Carter Field.

Spiro handles Roland on Senior Night

SPIRO — The Spiro Bulldogs continued undefeated in District 3A-8 play with a 34-18 win over the Roland Rangers on Friday night at McClain Stadium.
The Bulldogs (8-1 overall, 6-0 in district play), winners of eight straight after losing their season opener to Vian, scored straight points after the Rangers (5-4, 2-4) took a 12-7 lead in the second quarter.

Talihina routs Savanna to capture A-6 crown

TALIHINA — It was the Alan Lockhart show in "The Pit" — Doc Robinson Stadium — Friday night.
On Senior Night honoring senior football players, cheerleaders and band members, the Golden Tigers took a 43-6 win from the Savanna Bulldogs to all but give Talihina the District A-6 crown.
The two teams entered the match undefeated. The Golden Tigers' offense charged and the defense smothered the opponents through the evening.

Pirates roll Savages on Senior Night

Oh, what the difference a year makes. Last year, the Pirates were the up-and-coming team, while the Broken Bow Savages were the established team. The Pirates traveled over the mountain to Broken Bow with one goal, to defeat the Savages and gain the fourth playoff slot. A good effort was not enough as the Pirates lost and saw their playoff dreams and aspiration go down the tubes.

Lady Vikings fall in season opener to No. 24 State Fair, Mo., on Friday

Despite getting 18 points from Breonna Johnson, it wasn't enough for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings as they lost their 2013-14 season opener 71-57 to the 24th-ranked and homestanding State Fair Community College team Friday in the State Fair Classic.
State Fair had a solid first half offensively by jumping out to a 32-25 lead at halftime.
The Lady Vikings will play their second of two games in the two-day event at 1:30 this afternoon (Saturday) against Jefferson County, Mo.

Vike@Nite category results released

This year’s Vike @ Nite 5K awarded prizes in several categories of competition in addition to who crossed the finish line in the top spots as previously announced.
The Most Creative Costume awards went to Traci Barnes, Susan Manlove, Cathleen Manlove and Sam Kiger. This group won Mazzio’s gift certificates.
The Largest Corporate Team was represented by Southern Star and they won a traveling Viking helmet trophy.

Poteau senior girls hope to end season strong in Saturday afternoon's state cross country meet

Four Poteau Lady Pirate cross country runners — Kaitlan Standridge, Brittany Fox, Deven Bond and Haley Griggs — hope to end their high school careers in the best way possible, winning state.
The senior foursome, along with Sheridan Hoyer, Kayle Dryer and Bailee Bates — as well as Pirate senior Dylan Fox — will run at the Class 4A State Meet, which will begin at noon Saturday at Edmond Santa Fe High School, located at 1901 West 15th Street.

CASC men prepare for season of changes; Vikings open 2013-14 campaign Saturday morning vs. Howard, Texas, in Midwest Scouting Service Challenge

The Carl Albert State College Vikings will open their 2013-14 basketball season at 11 a.m. Saturday against Howard, Texas, and face South Plains, Texas, at 11 a.m. Sunday. Both games will be a part of the Midwest Scouting Service Challenge in Dallas.
The Vikings non-conference schedule will be tough as usual again this season.
“Howard and Coffeyville [Kan.] both made the national tournament last year,” CASC men's coach Mike St. John said. “We are playing three of the six teams in arguably the best region in the country from West Texas.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Veteran 9-year-old Fifth Date was last of eight in the Oklahoma Classics Cup 13 nights ago, a race he won in 2012. Halloween worked out better for the Oklahoma-bred as he dropped down to the $10,000 claiming ranks, went to the front at the start and led every stride of his one-mile event.
