CAMERON â The Wister Wildcats took the first step in defending their county title Monday night with a 12-4 come-from-behind victory over the Howe Lions on opening-day action of the LeFlore County Tournament.
The Lions opened the day with a comeback 3-2 win over the Leflore Savages.
The last game of the night also saw a comeback as the host Cameron Yellowjackets rallied past the Heavener Wolves 8-6.
However, everyone will have to wait until at least Friday to play their next tournament game as Tuesdayâs slate of games was rained out.
POCOLA â On Thursday afternoon, the Pocola Indians came within an eyelash of knocking off the Spiro Bulldogs, only to fall short by the score of 4-3.
The same two teams met Monday afternoon in the winnerâs-bracket quarterfinals of the LeFlore County Tournament. Unfortunately for the homestanding Indians, the outcome was the same.
The Bulldogs downed the Indians 9-2 after the Indians opened the day with a 15-1 rout of the Arkoma Mustangs.

ARKOMA â The good news for Arkoma coach Mark Weatherton,:his Mustangs played their best game of the season. Unfortunately for them, they're still seeking their first win.
The Kinta Eagles scored twice in the fifth inning to snatch a 4-3 win away from the Mustangs.
Hackett, Ark., 5, Pocola 1: In Hackett, the Indians committed seven errors on the day, aiding Hackett to its five runs â scoring once in the opening inning and twice in the third and fifth innings.
The Cameron Yellowjackets and the Panama Razorbacks were in the middle of their consolation semifinal Friday afternoon in the Crowder Tournament. The game was suspended by rain, tied at 3 in the third inning, but more rain on Saturday totally rained out the tournament. The rained-out games will not be rescheduled.
The âJackets split their first two games of the day, beating the McAlester junior varsity 9-4, but losing to Muldrow 11-3.
The Hogs lost their only game played, falling 8-2 to Hartshorne.
STILWELL â The Heavener Wolves soccer team indeed had a Happy Easter weekend.
The Wolves blanked the Tahlequah Tigers 1-0 in Friday night's title game to win the Stilwell Tournament.
The Wolves will return to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Harvey Stadium against the Hugo Buffaloes for their district opener.
The Lady Wolves will look for their first district win in the first game that night as they will face Keys (Park Hill) at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Harvey Stadium.
Incumbent Chief Stephen Fruen defeated Jim Craig, investigator for the LeFlore County District Attorney's Office, in the race for Poteau police chief.
Fruen led 771-477, in what LeFlore County election officials were calling complete but unofficial returns at about 8 p.m. Tuesday night.
Craig was a longtime officer with the Poteau Police Department before moving to the District Attorney's Office. He is the son of longtime LeFlore County Sheriff Jack Craig.
The Poteau City Council appointed Fruen, a 10-year veteran, as chief in June 2012 after veteran Chief Billy Jack Smith died.
Arlon L. âBuckâ Lockaby, 77, of Cameron died Saturday, March 30, 2013, in Cameron. Arlon was born May 29, 1935, in Norman to Lotis Rue and Laura M. (McMillin) Lockaby. He was retired from AES. He attended Panama First Baptist Church. Buck was a farmer, He was a godly man, loving his family and friends, loving to all. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby Lockaby; brothers, Troy and Alton Lockaby and Cecil McDonald; son, Douglas Lockaby.

Witte Street General Store will hold a clothing giveaway in front of the store at 104 N. Witte from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, according to owner Darleen Seaman.
Poteau Main Street Matters is lending tables for the event, Seaman said.
"No questions, no forms to fill out â just come pick up some very nice clothes and shows," she said.
A variety of items in all sizes will be available. Free coffee and Bibles also will be given out, Seaman said.
RED OAK â The Poteau Lady Pirates almost did it the hard way to win the Red Oak Tournament on Friday afternoon â but the key word was almost.
After winning the first title game 4-3 over the host Lady Eagles, Red Oak beat Poteau 9-1 in the second title game to win its own tournament.
The Lady Pirates lost their first game 8-3 to Wister, but beat Pocola 13-2, Wister 10-2, McCurtain 11-1 and Panama 13-0 to reach the championship game.
