While the Poteau Pirates will hope for a happy homecoming tonight when they entertain the Stilwell Indians at 7:30 p.m. at Costner Stadium, last week was a pretty happy one, too, for the locals after the Pirates ended a six-game losing streak to the archrival Sallisaw Black Diamonds in a 34-9 victory.
â€śIt was a good win for us,â€ť Poteau coach Greg Werner said. â€śIt was a good win for our program. It was a good win for the town. Hopefully, that can propel us to bigger and better things. It was a big deal for us to win.â€ť

Bokoshe Tigers football coach Bryan Murray has said if his team can ever be at full strength that there were some upcoming games in which he liked his team's chances.
The first of those games could very well be tonight when the Tigers entertain the Midway Chargers at 7:30 p.m. in a District C-4 contest.
For the first time since the tailgate party that took place on the first day of football practice in August, the Heavener Wolves will finally get to play a game at Harvey Stadium, which they will do at 7:30 tonight in their District 3A-8 contest against the Roland Rangers.
The game was to have been their homecoming game, but it has been changed to Oct. 17 when the Wolves entertain the Spiro Bulldogs.

The Pocola Indians football team has had a rough two-game road trip the last two weeks, losing 29-20 to the Quinton Savages and 59-0 to the Vian Wolverines in the District 2A-6 opener.
Now, the Indians (1-3 overall, 0-1 in district play) will return to the friendly confines of John Carter Field for a homecoming district game against the Hugo Buffaloes (4-0, 0-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The Indians are a wounded bunch right now, which does not help the team's efforts at the present time.
On Sept. 23, 2011, the Spiro Bulldogs went to Idabel and were stunned by the homestanding Warriors 23-6. The same two teams will meet at the same site at 7:30 p.m. Friday when the â€™Dogs (3-1, 1-0 in District 3A-8) visit the Warriors (0-4, 0-1).
Balloons may be the main attraction, but there will plenty to do on the ground as well at this year's Poteau Balloon Fest, scheduled Oct. 18-19.
â€śWe have worked very hard to have activities and events for people of all ages," said Chris Ward, Poteau Chamber of Commerce board chairman.
This yearâ€™s event will include more than 30 teams competing in the KCBS BBQ Oklahoma State Championship Cook-Off, according to Chamber CEO Karen Wages.
The Poteau Police Department is now home to a prescription medication disposal container provided by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.
The drop box arrived Tuesday along with OBN Director Darrell Weaver and a large group of area prevention representatives.
The Poteau Police Department location marks the 141st container placed in the state to help with the safe disposal of medication. Since the programs inception two years ago, more than 20 tons of unwanted medications have been collected, according to Weaver.
GREENWOOD, Ark. â€” The Poteau Bandit League teams went 3-1 on the day Saturday against Greenwood Blue.
The sixth-grade team won 26-0. The fourth-graders posted a 22-0 shutout, while the third-graders won 26-6.
Greenwood Blue spoiled the chance at the sweep with a 31-0 win over the Poteau fifth-graders.
The Poteau Bandit League teams will return to action next Saturday on the road against Van Buren (Ark.) White. Games will begin at 10 a.m. with the third-grade contest first, then the fourth-grade, fifth-grade and sixth-grade games to follow.
