HEAVENER â In February, Heavener High School football players Blake Smittle and Aaron Turner signed to play with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Tuesday morning in a ceremony inside the high school gym, a third HHS senior signed to play college ball.
Basketball senior Trevor Smith signed his letter of intent with the Carl Albert State College Vikings.

Poteau Valley Humane Society has been at its present location since 2006 when two families of Poteau, the Reed Family and George Ollie Jr., provided funds to building the beautiful facility on Industrial Boulevard.

The Poteau Lady Pirates and the Pocola Lady Indians were seeded No. 1 and 2, respectively, in last monthâs seeding meeting. Going into Tuesday nightâs title game, the seeding held true.
The Lady Pirates and the Lady Indians played in late Tuesday afternoonâs winnerâs bracket final at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex to see who played for the county title later that night.
The Lady Pirates handled Howe 14-0, then beat Heavener 4-0 on Day 1 on Monday at the PARC to make it to within two wins of another county slow-pitch title.
David Alan Reed, 62, of Jackson, Miss., formerly of Poteau, died Monday, April 8, 2013, in Jackson. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 11, at the Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
Lennie Delassus, 75, of Poteau died Monday, April 8, 2013, in Poteau. No services are scheduled at this time. Evans and Miller Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Etta Lorece Brown, 89, of Eastland, Texas, died Saturday, April 6, 2013. Services are planned for 2 p.m. Thursday, April11, at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro.
Jimmy âJimâ Boydston, 73, of Spiro died Monday, April 8, 2013. No services are scheduled. Mallory-Martin Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
