HEAVENER â€” The 2013 LeFlore County track season got underway in fine fashion for the Poteau Lady Pirates as they won the Heavener Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at Harvey Stadium.
The Lady Pirates had 152 points, finishing ahead of runner-up Broken Bow (113 points), Vian (84), host Heavener (72), Quinton (55), Howe (39) and Spiro (26).
In the boys division, Quinton won the team title with 130 points, followed by Broken Bow (108 points), Poteau (93), Vian (88), Spiro (81), Valliant (34), Heavener (23), Savanna (19), Muldrow (17), Antlers (11) and Howe (nine).
Choctaw Country Club is having a membership drive until April 1. Anyone signing up to become a member from now until March 30 will be able to use the country club for free, and play a round of golf for free.
Beginning on April 1, those individuals will then be required to pay their dues covering a calendar year. There is a $25 application fee. For additional information, call (918) 647-3488.

MUSKOGEE â€” After losing its home opener Saturday afternoon, the Poteau Pirates baseball team bounced back with a road come-from-behind victory over the Hilldale Hornets by a score of 7-4.
Howe 24, Arkoma 0: In Arkoma, the Lions made it 2-for-2 to begin the season. Howe took control of the game by scoring 10 runs in the first inning, then added nine in the second inning and five in the third inning.
Whitesboro 10, Clayton 3: In Clayton, the Bulldogs opened the season in fine fashion, but had to come from behind to do so.
MULDROW â€” The Spiro baseball team hit the road Monday afternoon to face Muldrow in a battle of Bulldogs. The game, which was moved to Muldrow from Spiro due to better field conditions, was a see-saw battle with a couple of ties and lead changes as Muldrow eventually prevailed 9-7.
Cameron's Cody Maxwell has a broken right knuckle, a broken nose and two broken toes, but he had the hardware.
Maxwell, 19, became the youngest competitor to win an Xtreme Fighting Inc. championship belt Saturday night at Phoenix Expo Center in Fort Smith, Ark. He got a third-round knockout of Tahlequah's Rikki Swicegood to win the 135-pound title. He also got a plaque, and his bout with Swicegood was dubbed â€śThe Fight of the Night.â€ť
â€śIt was exciting,â€ť Maxwell said about his win. â€śI've had no better feeling. I've never felt anything like it.â€ť
SALLISAW â€” The Poteau Pirates capped a perfect opening week of the 2013 season by routing the Sallisaw Lady Black Diamonds 16-0 Friday afternoon.
The Lady Pirates put the game away with a 10-run first inning, thanks to a three-run home run by Shelby Standridge and a two-run homer by Sunnie McConnell. It was the first home run of the season for both players.
For the next two weeks, there will be a plenty of tournaments involving county baseball and softball teams.
Thursday through Saturday will be the Smithville Tournament, featuring Howe, Whitesboro and Wister.
The Spiro Bulldogs will play Vian and Sequoyah-Tahlequah in the Vian Festival on Saturday.
Next week will be the Poteau Wood Bat Festival and the Class 3A Showcase at Spiro.
Also next week, Wister will play in the Red Oak Festival on Monday and Tuesday before joining Whitesboro at the Union City Festival, which will take place March 21-22.
McLOUD â€” Panama High School powerlifter Ryan Farrar placed at last weekend's Class 2A State Powerlifting Meet. He lifted a total of 1,275 pounds to finish fifth at heavyweight.
Two other Razorbacks participated in the meet, but did not place. Gabe Harp lifted 960 total pounds in the 168-pound division, while Bobby Lotchleas lifted 1,160 pounds in the heavyweight division.
For five innings, Saturday afternoon's home opener for the Poteau Pirates baseball team at Town Creek Park was going just fine. Then came the sixth inning.
The Stilwell Indians sent 16 batters to the plate, scoring 11 of them, as they rallied to down the Pirates 14-7.
