In the nightcap, Wister pitcher Hunter Gibson (17-7) threw a no-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Having fun at McMillin's birthday scavenger hunt

September 27, 2013

Saturday afternoon, we went to twin siblings Dax and Braxton McMillin's 11th birthday party at their ranch in Gilmore. We got teams together for a scavenger hunt in Poteau, and we had 90 minutes to complete the hunt.
My team was comprised of my son, Jacques, Ian McRorey, Layne Clark, Ryan Scott, Kass Fenton and Madison Dodson. I was our team's chauffeur and Melissa Urshison was the team's captain.

Poteau Pirates look to end losing streak against Sallisaw in district opener

September 27, 2013

The real season begins tonight when the Poteau Pirates will begin District 4A-4 play at 7:30 p.m. against archrival Sallisaw at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium.
The Pirates (3-0) look to end a six-game losing streak to the Black Diamonds (2-1).
“If it's going to be a rivalry game, we're going to have to start doing our part,” Poteau coach Greg Werner said. “We're going to have to start winning some of them if it's going to be a rivalry. It is a big game. We're 30 minutes apart, so that makes it a little bit bigger.”
To begin district play at 1-0 is very important to the Pirates.

September 27, 2013

The Spiro Bulldogs (2-1) have won two straight games, including last Friday night's 55-6 thumping of the Haskell Haymakers at McClain Stadium. Still, Spiro coach Chris Bunch said the fans still haven't seen the ‘Dogs' best yet.

Heavener looks for second straight win in District 3A-8 opener Friday night at Valliant

September 26, 2013

The Heavener Wolves football team got its first win of the season last week in a 13-7 win over Gore, which was a lot better night than the season opener the week before in a 42-6 loss to Hartshorne.
“We played better on defense,” Heavener coach Carl Lee said about last week's win. “We still left a lot of points on their end of the field, but our defense played a lot better.”
The combination of a few more players available for the Gore game and just playing for a second straight week helped.

Panama finally hits road for first time in district opener at Wilburton

September 26, 2013

It's not that inconceivable that the Panama Razorbacks football team could have been 3-0 as it enters Friday night's 7:30 p.m. District 2A-6 opener at Wilburton.
“Honestly, we weren't that far from losing to Roland,” said Panama coach Brandon Ellis, whose team lost in Week 2 40-12 to the Rangers at George Ollie Stadium. “Looking at the film, we just shot ourselves in the foot. We didn't line up where we were supposed to. Our defense played great. When you lose the turnover battle, you normally lose the game — and we did.”

Bow season is finally here, and I am behind schedule

September 26, 2013

Holy smokes! Bow season is less than a week away. I have finally got to do some scouting, and I have my stands ready to put up. The only thing I am missing is time to put them up in the next four days.
In the last five years, I have had stands up and cameras out in August or early September, but my schedule this year has hindered me from getting that done. So, I am going in to this season with the feeling of being behind.
