Friday afternoon's home doubleheader against the Arkansas Baptist Buffaloes at Ival Goodman Field started on the right foot for the homestanding Carl Albert State Vikings baseball team, but finished on a down note for the locals.
The Vikings took the opener from the Buffs 9-0, but the visitors from Little Rock claimed an 8-1 victory in the nightcap.

SHAWNEE — Getting 18 points from Norman's D. Brown in her final game as a Lady Viking wasn't enough as the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings came up short in their 63-56 loss to the Murray State College Lady Aggies in the Region II Tournament quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at Oklahoma Baptist University's Noble Complex.
The Lady Vikings loss to Murray State ends the 2012-13 season for the Lady Vikings at 12-17.
Carl Albert State College Lady Viking D. Brown, a 5-3 sophomore shooting guard from Norman, has been named to the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Third Team.
Adrion Webber, a 6-5 sophomore shooting guard from Muskogee, has named to the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Third Team.
The Poteau Lady Pirates got to play on their new-look softball field for the first time this spring, and they didn't disappoint their fans Thursday afternoon.
Taking advantage of five Wister errors, the Lady Pirates were able to blank the Lady Wildcats 12-0 in a four-inning, run-rule victory.

The Carl Albert State College softball team had a dramatic win and a rout in taking a home doubleheader from the Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Lady Mavericks on Thursday afternoon.
A four-run seventh inning rallied the Lady Vikings to a 7-6 come-from-behind win in the opener. Then, they corraled the Lady Mavericks 13-6 in the nightcap.
The Lady Vikings, who had Saturday's home twinbill canceled against Arkansas Baptist, will return to action at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Shawnee for a doubleheader against Seminole State.
The Wister Ballers basketball team will have a fundraising tournament Saturday and Sunday at the Wister High School gym.
The 5-on-5 tournament is open to boys and girls teams in three different divisions — grades three-four, five-six and seven-eight.
Entry fee is $75 per team.

Lake Wister and Talimena state parks have joined to promote a heart healthy hiking program this year. A hike will take place each month, alternating between the two state parks.

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Talihina Golden Tigers were making a Cinderella run through the Class 2A playoffs, including upsetting Oktaha in the regional tournament finals and Preston last Friday night in the area finals to make it to Thursday's state-tournament quarterfinals. That was where Cinderella's shoe no longer fit.
Class 2A's fifth-ranked Latta Panthers ended the Golden Tigers' season with a 58-43 state-quarterfinal victory Thursday afternoon at Oklahoma City University. The Golden Tigers end the season with a 19-12 record.
The Carl Albert State College Vikings baseball team got this week off in fine fashion with a sweep of the Paris (Texas) Junior College Dragons on Monday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field.
The Vikings nipped the Dragons 1-0 in nine innings in the opener, then took the nightcap 3-2.
Carl Albert will be home for the next two days. The Vikings will entertain Arkansas Baptist for a doubleheader at 12:45 p.m. Friday at Ival Goodman Field.
The Vikings then will face archrival Eastern Oklahoma State College in a single, nine-inning contest beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ival Goodman Field.
