Poteau starts slow, but pulls away from Tulsa Webster

September 21, 2013

TULSA — Thursday night's game at Milton Stadium was scary for several reasons. The Tulsa Webster Warriors' football team is loaded with athletic players, and the Warriors have given the Pirates fits over the past several years.
Webster scored on a 31-yard pass. Then the Pirates were read the riot act on the sideline and they then went on a 46-0 run to win the game by the score of 46-6.
The Pirates will open District 4A-4 play at 7:30 p.m. Friday against the Sallisaw Black Diamonds at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium in Sallisaw.

The Golden Tigers then gave the reserves action for the final three quarters to rest the starters for next week's district opener against Quinton, which will be homecoming.

Poteau's original NASCAR fan recognized

September 20, 2013

During Labor Day weekend's NASCAR race at Atlanta, an interesting name was observed in the race program. The program listed longtime Atlanta Motor Speedway fans, and the second page of the section was entitled 25 to 49 years [for being fans]. On that list was Poteau's own Harold R. “Dick” Wilkerson.
Dick, who is known far and wide for his knowledge of motor homes and other recreational vehicles, has been a stock car racing fan since the early days of Tri-State Speedway and many other local tracks.

Radley has been diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma — cancer of the connective tissue. He is the son of Kendall and Vanessa Black O’Neal and the grandson of Gary and Mary Radley and Jack and Brenda Sweeten.
