Arkoma defense strong, offense shaky in Friday night's scrimmage against Porum

August 26, 2013

ARKOMA — Arkoma coach Mark Weatherton figured his Mustangs' defensive unit would have a good game, and it did in Friday night's scrimmage against Porum at Mustang Field. However, the offensive unit did not perform as well as he thought it would.
The Panthers scored only once on the Mustangs.
“Defensively, I thought we were pretty good,” Weatherton said. “We were a little inconsistent at linebacker. Our defense really had a better game than our offense did.”

Panama looks good in home scrimmage with Savanna

August 26, 2013

PANAMA — For the most part, the Panama Razorbacks' outing in their first football scrimmage of the 2013 preseason, a home one Friday night at George Ollie Stadium against Savanna, was pleasing to third-year coach Brandon Ellis.
“I thought we got out of it what we wanted to,” he said. “We stayed healthy.”
The Hogs scored three times, all on long scoring runs by three different people. Ryan Shirey took it to the house from 60 yards out, while Donald Lotchleas and Andy Burris each had TD scampers of 70 yards.

Scrimmage of Bulldogs for Spiro, Okmulgee

August 25, 2013

SPIRO — It was a battle of the Bulldogs on Thursday night at McClain stadium as Spiro took on Okmulgee in a preseason scrimmage.
Both teams ran 10 to 12 plays against each other, alternating possessions. Later, the teams played a shortened quarter, bringing in downs and distance and some uncontested kicking game duties.
Okmulgee took the first possession. Out of 10 plays, Spiro's defense held the visitors to just two gains of positive yardage, recording four incompletions and a sack by Frankie Solomon.

Talihina's offense sluggish, defense strong in road scrimmage at Valliant

August 25, 2013

VALLIANT — The Talihina Golden Tigers football team traveled a long way to Valliant to still find it has some more work to do to get ready for next month's season opener.
The Golden Tigers were sluggish to start, and played good defense until the offense got started.
Overall, the coaches were pleased with the effort, but the scrimmage showed some things that they need to work on next week as they prepare for the Golden Tigers' next scrimmage against Vian on Friday night at Doc Robinson Stadium.
