EOMC hosts blood drive

August 16, 2013

There’s no substitute for blood needed by patients in the hometown hospitals served by Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI). It’s only available due to those who selflessly take the time to give. EOMC’s blood drive, Thursday, Aug. 22, provides that opportunity for anyone who is healthy and at least 16 years old. It will occur at the library, 7-11:30 a.m.

Two tickets to the Tulsa Zoo and a summer T-shirt will be presented to each donor. Health screenings and Donor Rewards points, redeemable in OBI’s online store, are also provided to donors.

Leflore School celebrated its third annual Back-to-School Bash. Students, as well as adults, enjoyed free hot dogs, snow cones and cold drinks. The kids cooled off with two giant water slides and several took a surprise dip in the dunk tank. Many remained in doors under the air conditioner playing the Wheel of Fortune, winning cakes in the Cake Walk and receiving free haircuts by Brooke Dorsey and Tiffany Castillo. Amanda Lloyd with The Back to School Ministeries made it possible for all students to receive free school supplies with many receiving back packs.

Marsh's way of thinking

August 16, 2013

Most all of the Poteau Pirates are eagerly awaiting the new district alignments for the 2014-15 seasons. It is for sure that Tulsa Rogers is dropping down, but the status for Tulsa Cascia Hall is still in limbo. Will the Commandos stay in Class 4A or will their private school status and the multplier factor bump them up to Class 5A — or even 6A.
Poteau could get Ada, Tulsa Central, Oologah, Wagoner or Miami in its district. Whatever happens, the district will still be as tough as always — and maybe even tougher.
