The good news was the LeFlore County teams who were in the 2014 Heavener Bi-State Festival bested the squads from next door, but the not-so-good news was that the locals didn’t sweep the entire two day’s worth of games.
The Spiro teams went undefeated in Tuesday’s first two games of the day at the Heavener Gym, sweeping the squads from Oden, Ark. The Lady Bulldogs won 60-46, while the ’Dogs routed the Timberwolves 68-33.
However, the host Heavener teams could not follow suit as both lost to Acorn. The Lady Tigers held off the Lady Wolves 60-54 and the Tigers beat the Wolves 54-45.
GLENPOOL — Several wrestlers capped off Christmas week by placing at Saturday’s Glenpool Novice Tournament.
Three members came home as tournament champions.
Alan Callahan can now say he's the sixth man. Callahan won his sixth Poteau Daily News’ Pigskin Picks Contest last week, going 7-3 and winning the tie-breaker — which was the score between Dallas and Washington last Sunday afternoon, which was won by the Cowboys 44-17.
Callahan won $25 for his winning ballot.
The Week 20 ballot for next weekend’s contest will be in Tuesday's edition. That ballot will need to be turned in by 5 p.m. Jan. 9 to be eligible for that contest’s $25 prize-winning check.
