Poteau teams sweep road games Friday at Heavener

HEAVENER — The Poteau High School basketball teams started a busy weekend in fine fashion as they swept Heavener on Friday night. The Lady Pirates won 64-46, while the Pirates posted a 68-38 victory.

82nd LeFlore County Tournament begins Monday; Tournament Guide will be in Saturday's edition

One county tournament down, one more to go.
The finals of the 2014 LeFlore County Junior High Tournament were Saturday night at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse, and congratulations to the Monroe Eagles and the Heavener Lady Wolves for winning this year's event.
The 82nd LeFlore County High School Tournament will begin Monday, and the 2014 LCT Guide will be in Saturday's edition. This special section will be the game programs that will be available at the gates at all three sites of action next week.

Weekend High School Girls Basketball Roundup

WISTER — The Bokoshe Lady Tigers spoiled homecoming for Wister as they beat the Lady Wildcats 67-47 Friday night.
The Lady Tigers, leading 12-11 after a period, outscored the Lady Wildcats 35-2 in the second quarter to take a 47-13 lead at halftime.
Panama 44, Cameron 28: In Cameron, the Lady Razorbacks jumped out to a 12-5 lead after a period to take control of the contest.
Howe 64, Keota 36: In Howe, the LeFlore County Lady Lions totally dominated the Haskell County Lady Lions to make it a happy homecoming.

Donald Ray Clark

Donald Ray Clark, 73, of Poteau died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark. Donald was born Oct. 4, 1940, in Howe to Barney and Ethel McKissick Clark. He was retired from LeFlore County. Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose L. Clark; 13 siblings and grandson, Blakely Parson.

Connie L. Olsen

Connie L. Olsen, 67, of Poteau died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013. She was born Oct. 28, 1946, in Benton Harbor, Mich., to Martin Owen and Stella Mae (New) Reagan. She was a homemaker. 
Survivors include her husband, Mark of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Carmen Minor and Bill Overton of Poteau; two grandchildren, Jazzmynn Mae Overton, W.M. “Mykel” Overton; sisters, Barbara Baker, Brenda Slayton of Climax, Michigan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones; many beloved friends.

Patricia Ann Beason, 75, of Wister went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark. Pat was born Feb. 18, 1938, in Tahlequah to Ernest and Leona (Hicks) Powell. She was retired from G’s Cleaners. Pat was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Wister for more than 40 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Tom and Wayne Powell.

Donald Eugene Horton

Donald Eugene Horton, 77, of Bokoshe left this life on the evening of Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, in his home with his wife and two sons at his side, following a lengthy illness. Donald was born Aug. 19, 1936, in Milton to Guy Quincy and Montie Olean (LeFlore) Horton. Donald devoted his life to his wife and family. He worked for many years in a fertilizer plant and later years in the oil field, pumping gas wells, He loved hunting, fishing and golfing when younger. As age came along most of his life was devoted to clearing the farm land where he lived and working with the cattle.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, in Dowden Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Heavener.

Ruby Aline DeWitt, 78, of Spiro died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel with burial in New Hope Cemetery.
The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Steve Ray Blansett, 61, of West Fork, Ark., died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, in West Fork.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at New Hope Cemetery Pavilion, Spiro.
The family will visit with relatives and friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Evans and Miller Funeral Home in Pocola.
