SPIRO â€” The Poteau Lady Pirates held a 32-30 lead going into the final quarter, but Spiro's Carleigha Thompson took over the game. Thompson only scored six points in the final quarter, but she had at least five pinpoint assists in the final half of the quarter to help the Lady Bulldogs win the game by the score of 49-41 Friday night at the Spiro Multipurpose Gym.
Poteau Pirates football players, coaches and fans got another chance to relive the magical 2013 season at the Poteau Pirates Football Awards Banquet, which took place Sunday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Several players were given special honors. Senior quarterback Jace Pitchford was named the Most Valuable Player, while sophomore running back Roger Barcheers was named the Offensive MVP for the Pirates, who went 12-2, won District 4A-4 and were state runners-up.
Pearline McClure, 62, of Talihina died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, in Antlers.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Burkhart Funeral Service Chapel in Talihina. Burial will be in New Talihina Cemetery.
Johnny Lee Martin, 69, of Panama died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Panama Assembly of God. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.Â The family will visit with relatives and friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.
A Poteau is asking area residents to help him locate his pet parrot, "Lucy," which vanished just days before Christmas.
Getz said he believes the bird may have been stolen from his residence. The day before Lucy disappeared, three men in a white pickup truck pulled up in front of Getz's home where his wife Carla was out in the front yard. The men asked her several questions about Lucy. The following day Getz and his wife left th residence for about 45 minutes and when they returned Lucy was no where to be found.
A large grass fire that endangered gas wells along Oklahoma Highway 83 burned several acres Monday afternoon. Members of the Monroe, Howe and Heavener fire departments responded to the blaze south of Bonnie's Plant Farm.

Raymond Goodwin, 74, of Keota died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 in Keota.Â
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Saving Grace Refuge Church, Keota.Â Burial will be in Minerâ€™s Cemetery, McCurtain, under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
The Forestry Department will be conducting a controlled burn beginning at 11 a.m. Monday morning in the Cedar Lake area of LeFlore County.
Outdoor burning is still discouraged due to high fire risks.
Brent Allen Graham, 25, of Pocola died Wednesday January 15, 2014. Brent loved his family, and he loved God. He loved being in the outdoors, playing sports, rock climbing, chess and was an amateur artist. Brent was preceded in death by his grandfather, Floyd Graham, and brother, Josh Graham.
Survivors include his parents, Greg and Twilla Graham of Pocola; sister, Sydney Graham of Pocola; grandparents, J.B. and Donna Branch of Pocola and Sandra Smith of Greenwood, Ark.; numerous other relatives and loved ones.
