Time is getting short for Shady Point voters who wish to cast their ballot by absentee.
According to LeFlore County Election Board Secretary Sharon Steele, the ballots must be received by the election board no later than 7 p.m on Jan. 14. Due to time restrictions and mail service, the applications to get an absentee ballot is Jan. 8 at 5 p.m.
The special election will be held Jan. 14 and voters will decide who will fill the one-year unexpired trustee term. Candidates who cast their name into the race for the town position include Henry Wells and Leroy Smith.
I hope everybody had a safe New Year’s eve and ushered in the new year with friends and family.
The year is 2014, and I started it out just like I wanted to — sitting in a tree with my bow in hand. There are 13 more days of bow season, and I need to put a little more meat in the freezer before it is over.

My dad, along with my uncle Leon and uncle Fred had a good day back during gun season with all of them taking deer on the same day. That was the first time in a long time that they all got one on the same day.
Have a great week!
