LeFlore County burn ban issues Monday

January 27, 2014

LeFlore County under burn ban for the next seven days, according to to Kelli Ford.
No outdoor burning.
Controlled burns on state and federal forestry department lands are exempt.
Charcoal and gas grills are also allowed.

PYWC members do well at Locust Grove; Poteau Pirates will entertain Keys (Park Hill) on Tuesday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse

LOCUST GROVE — Several Poteau Youth Wrestling Club members did well last weekend at the Locust Grove Tournament.
In the first session of action in novice division, Drew Moro placed first, while five others placed in the first session in the open division. Bryson Terry placed first, Jarrett Lilley and Zane Hendrix were runners-up, Drew Moro was third and Rae Hendrix was fourth. Hayden Moro competed in the first session in the open division, but did not place.

Poteau, Spiro girls make tonight's championship game; Wister girls, Arkoma boys win consolation titles

TALIHINA — The Poteau Lady Pirates and the Spiro Lady Bulldogs played last weekend in a regular-season game at the Spiro Multipurpose Gym. They will play tonight for LeFlore County supremacy.
The Lady Pirates beat the Panama Lady Razorbacks 49-46 in one championship semifinal of the 82nd LeFlore County Tournament on Thursday night on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium, while the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Howe Lady Lions 61-51.

Lady Vikings dominate Cowgirls, while No. 24 Cowboys rout Vikings; archrival Eastern teams come to town Monday night

WARNER — A 15-point performance by Alyssa Banks proved to be the difference for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in their 62-37 win over Connors State College on Thursday night.
A dominant 44-24 effort in the second half by the 24th-ranked Connors State College Cowboys was the difference for them in their 92-58 win over the Carl Albert State College Vikings in Thursday night's second game.
The CASC teams will entertain Eastern Oklahoma State College on Monday night. The women's game will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 8 p.m. at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.

Postage fee increase begins Monday

The cost of correspondence is again on the rise after the United States Postal Service announced a 3-cent hike on the price of stamps.
According to the Postal Service, on Monday the price of first-class mail stamps will increase from 46 cents to 49 cents.
Forever stamps will remain a viable postage at their original purchase price and will be accepted as the only necessary form of postage for first-class mail weighing 3 ounces or less, according to the service's website.

CASC hosts OBI blood drive
