Robert L. Morgan, 79, of Chino, Calif., passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014. He was retired from the California Air National Guard where he had attained the rank of chief master sergeant and also from the Defense Contract Administration Services, where he was a supervisory industrial specialist. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Morgan of Chino.

Cellphone scam hits the area

Area residents beware, the simple action of returning a missed phone call could cost you a lot of money.
In what is being dubbed a "ring and run" scam, callers could be charged fees in excess of $30 just for returning the missed call.
According to the Oklahoma Bankers Association, the calls are coming from foreign countries and the scammers hang up after the first ring to your cell phone. Their goal — to get you to call back, which results in an international call fee and charges of $9 per minute or more

Make a pledge; take a plunge

Plummeting temperatures promise to perk up participants in the upcoming annual Polar Plunge.
Plungers will take the frigid dip in Poteau on Saturday, Feb. 22. at Martin-Dunn Country Auto Sales parking lot , formerly Brad Fenton's. The Arctic event helps raise money for the Special Olympics Summer and Winter games.
All plungers will be required to collect a "Bear" minimum of $75 in donations to be able to make the jump into freezing water.

CASC baseball team opens season Monday afternoon at Bacone JV

The Carl Albert State College baseball team will begin its 2014 season at noon Monday in a road doubleheader against the Bacone College junior varsity in Muskogee.
“We're ready,” CASC coach Mark Pollard said. “Every year is new and special. This is my 32nd [as CASC head coach] and 35th overall, and each one of them is special. We're excited about it [starting the season].
