Fort Sill Apache Tribe to celebrate 100th anniversary of POW release

Fort Sill Apache Tribe hosts a 100th anniversary event to commemorate the release from prisoner of war status of the Chiricahua and Warm Springs Apache Tribe, now known as the Fort Sill Apache Tribe.

The event will include a sunrise blessing, and an opening reception followed by a video showing and a former Tribal Princess reception.

Spiro teams sweep regional titles, a win away from state; Lady Bulldogs play No. 1 Adair, ’Dogs face Nowata in Friday night's area finals

HENRYETTA — Last week, the Spiro High School basketball teams were celebrating sweeping the titles at the previous weekend's Class 3A District Tournament at the Spiro Multipurpose Gym. This week, they're celebrating doing the same thing at the regional tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs and ’Dogs swept the title games at the Class 3A Regional Tournament. The girls routed the Beggs Golden Demons 70-46, while the boys outlasted Lincoln Christian in a battle of Bulldogs.

Poteau wrestler places sixth at 4A State Tournament; Talihina matman represent county at 3A State Tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY — Poteau wrestler Devin Anderson placed sixth at last weekend's Class 4A State Tournament at State Fair Arena.
LeFlore County's other state qualifier, Talihina's Domnick Shedd, lost both of his matches in the Class 3A State Tournament.

It's been a 'Long' time coming for local coach; current Leflore superintendent, former Cameron coach inducted into Hall of Fame earlier this year

It’s been a — ‘Long’ — time coming for former Cameron High School baseball coach John Long to be recognized, elected, inducted and honored by the Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association.
Long, now an administrator and Superintendent of Schools at Leflore, was inducted into the elite group of baseball coaches and honored last month at the association’s annual awards banquet in Oklahoma City. This group of coaches that Longs joins in the OBCA Hall of Fame includes baseball coaches at all levels, including college and universities.
