Lawrence Schlienz, 80, Edith Eileen Custard, 57, Jacob Custard, 21, of Whitesboro died March 3, 2014, in Whitesboro.
A memorial service will be held at noon Wednesday, March 12, at the Lenox Christ Church under the direction of Burkhart Funeral Service, Talihina.

Howe boys, Spiro teams state bound

Last week, one high school basketball team, the Arkoma Lady Mustangs, represented LeFlore County at state. This week, local fans will get to triple their pleasure at state.
The Howe Lions and the Spiro High School team made their respective state tournaments, which will begin Thursday in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area.
The Lions, who lost their Class 2A Area Tournament finals 60-49 to Preston on Friday night, beat county rival Pocola 57-49 to win the consolation finals Saturday night at the Muskogee Civic Center.

Hilldale girls avenge loss to Poteau to end Lady Pirates' hoop season

WILBURTON — On Feb. 27, the Poteau Lady Pirates won their Class 4A Regional Tournament championship semifinal over the Hilldale Lady Pirates in the final game for the season at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The same two teams met in the Class 4A Area Tournament consolation semifinals here Friday afternoon with a different result as the Lady Hornets ended the Lady Pirates' season with a 57-52 victory.

Nerrissia Skinner, 85, of Shady Point died Saturday, March 8, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Nerrissia was born April 16, 1928, in Monroe to Leon and Jesker (Hayes) Thompson. She was a bank teller at Central National Bank. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, A.V. Skinner Sr.; brothers, Kenneth, Bob and Raiford Thompson.

Lady Vikings' season ends with Region II Tournament semifinal loss to Eastern

SHAWNEE — Getting 19 points from Breonna Johnson in her last game as a Lady Viking and 18 points from Kilah Cummings weren't enough for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in their 75-69 loss to the Eastern Oklahoma State College Lady Mountaineers in a semifinal game of the NJCAA Women's Region II Tournament on Friday afternoon at St. Gregory's University.
The Lady Vikings ended the season at 17-14.

Gladys Mae Crosswell

Gladys Mae Crosswell, 87, of Poteau died Saturday, March 8, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark. Gladys was born Sept. 27, 1926, in Bokoshe to Charley Allen and Lottie Mae (Hendrix) Ralls. She was a homemaker. Gladys was a member of the First Assembly of God. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Barbara and Minnie; six brothers, Thomas, Bob, Lloyd, Bill, Buster, Donald; and grandson, Lenny.

10 arrested in drug sweep

Several Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies served narcotic search warrants at three Heavener homes Friday.
Jail records show 10 people were jailed on drug-related crimes in connection to the raids.
The District 16 Drug Task Force, Drug Enforcement Agency, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, LeFlore County Sheriff's Office, Heavener and Pocola Police Departments, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms reportedly served the warrants.

Clover Run drawing near

Plans are finalized for the Red Oak 4-H 3rd Annual Clover 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, March 15 at 9 a.m.  Registration is from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. at the Red Oak Senior Citizens Center on Main Street, Red Oak.  The Entry fee on the day of the race is $10 and the first 100 entries will receive a T-shirt.  Profits from the Clover Run will be used to continue the Fair-Miller Park renovation project.

Poteau golf teams open seasons this week

The Poteau High School golf teams will begin their 2014 seasons this week.
The Pirates will play in the McAlester Invitational on Monday, which will begin around 10 a.m. for the Pirates to hit the links.
The Lady Pirates, who feature two-time state champion and future Arkansas-Little Rock golfer Hannah Ward, will begin their season at the Tulsa McLain/TSST Invitational, which will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday at Forest Ridge Country Club.

Whitesboro girls open softball season with road victory over Battiest

BATTIEST — The Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs opened their 2014 slow-pitch softball season with an 8-4 victory over the Battiest Lady Panthers on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs broke a 3-all tie after two innings with a two-run third inning, a two-run fourth inning and a single run in the sixth inning for an 8-3 lead.
Friday Games Canceled
Two high school baseball games and a softball game were canceled on Friday.
