For the third time in five games this season, the Spiro Bulldogs got the better of the Poteau Pirates, and in so doing spoiled Senior Night on Monday at Town Creek Park with an 11-7 come-from-behind victory in a game that featured two small rain delays.
Pocola 13, Sallisaw-Central 0: Monday in Pocola, the Indians got a three-hit performance from the duo of Ricky Manzano and Dakota Woffard. Manzano got the win as he pitched three innings with six strikeouts, while Woffard went the final two innings with a K.

The Poteau Lady Pirates began the week in fine fashion with a 9-1 home victory over the Wister Lady Wildcats on Monday afternoon.
The Lady Pirates jumped out to a 2-0 lead, before the Lady Wildcats cut the deficit in half in the third inning.
However, Poteau scored in four straight innings, once in the third, three runs in the fourth, twice in the fifth and a run in the sixth to put the game into run-rule status.

Poteau senior softball duo want one more trip to slow-pitch state; Lady Pirates play in regional tournament Wednesday in Muskogee

As freshmen, Poteau Lady Pirate slow-pitch softball seniors Chelsey Campbell and RaeLynn Caldwell made the Class 6A State Tournament, which capped back-to-back trips to state for Poteau.
If the Lady Pirates win Wednesday's Class 6A Regional Tournament in Muskogee, they will make state once again.

Poteau Chamber CEO receives 4-state award

Poteau Chamber of Commerce CEO Karen Wages was honored today [April 29] by chamber executives, directors and members from a four-state area during the annual Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma Regional Convention hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce Executive and held in Branson, Mo.
She was honored by being the first recipient of the Karen Wages MAKO Leadership Scholarship Award, what will be an annual award to chamber and executive directors in the 4-state area.

Sorry, folks. Due to space constaints in today's edition, I did not have room for the stories about the slow-pitch softball district tournaments that took place or resumed on Friday. Look for them to start appearing in Wednesday's paper. An FYI for you — space constraints may make some of them even hold until Thursday's edition, like what I had to do in the high school basketball playoffs in February and March.
Be patient with me, folks. The stories will be published.
