As senior Hannah Ward's Poteau High School golf career is on the back nine, she's making sure she goes out with bang.
Ward, a University of Arkansas-Little Rock signee, won her third Class 4A Regional Tournament, which took place Tuesday at Wolf Ridge Country Club. She shot an 80.
The Lady Pirates were regional runners-up as a team to qualify for next week's Class 4A State Tournament, which will be Wednedsday and Thursday at Lake Hefner South Golf Course.
Poteau's team score was 391, 22 team shots behind regional champion Fort Gibson (369).
Two LeFlore County golfers, Cameron's Kody Whitehead and Heavener's Colt Dunigan, punched their tickets to next week's regional tournaments with strong outings in Monday's regional qualifiers.
At the Class 2A Regional Qualifier at Idabel Country Club, Whitehead had the top individual qualifying score with a 73. The two-time state qualifier will play in next Monday's Class 2A Regional Tournament, which will be Pryor Creek Golf Course in Pryor.
WARNER â€” The Carl Albert State College baseball team suffered a 12-7 loss to the Connors State College Cowboys on Monday night in a game that was delayed 90 minutes starting due to rain.
The Vikings, who played Tuesday afternoon in Clarksville, Ark., against the University of the Ozarks junior varsity to make up a previous rain out, will entertain Western Oklahoma State College in a two-day, four-game series beginning at 1 p.m. Friday at Ival Goodman Field. There will be a twinbill on Friday, then the final pair of games will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Damage left in Octavia after storms rocked LeFlore County Sunday night has been declared the results of a tornado.
On Monday representatives of the National Weather Service surveyed the damage reported in the Ouachita forest near Octavia. On Tuesday the NWS released information that an EF1 tornado was the culprit that left broken, twisted trees and downed a power line.
OKLAHOMA CITY â€” The Poteau Pirates golf team tied for third place at Monday's Class 4A State Preview, which took place at Lake Hefner North Golf Course. The Pirates tied Newcastle with a 320. Technically Poteau finished fourth on the tiebreaker of both team's No. 5 golfer's scores. Since Newcastle's No. 5 had a better score than Poteau's, the Racers were officially awarded a third-place team finish, with the Pirates fourth.
Oklahoma City Heritage Hall won the tournament with a 297, with Sallisaw second (313).
HEAVENER â€” The Heavener Lady Wolves softball team went undefeated on the final day of the Class 5A District Tournament to claim the title on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Wolves, who beat Spiro on Thursday before a hailstorm canceled the rest of the tournament until Friday, won both games from Stigler, 12-1 and 12-4, to win the district title, and advance to this week's Class 5A Regional Tournament â€” which will be Thursday in Heavener.
The season ended for the Lady Bulldogs as they lost the first game played on Friday, falling 6-3 to the Lady Panthers.
WISTER â€” The Wister Lady Wildcats softball team went undefeated on Friday to win the Class 3A District Tournament, beating Howe 19-1 and Wetumka twice by scores of 7-5 and 8-0.
The Lady Lions saw their season end with a 10-5 loss to the Lady Chieftains.
For the third time in five games this season, the Spiro Bulldogs got the better of the Poteau Pirates, and in so doing spoiled Senior Night on Monday at Town Creek Park with an 11-7 come-from-behind victory in a game that featured two small rain delays.
Pocola 13, Sallisaw-Central 0: Monday in Pocola, the Indians got a three-hit performance from the duo of Ricky Manzano and Dakota Woffard. Manzano got the win as he pitched three innings with six strikeouts, while Woffard went the final two innings with a K.
