While there was no LeFlore County athlete or coach in the spotlight during Wednesdayâ€™s action in the 2014 Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Games in the Tulsa metropolitan area, there were two individuals who did stand out.
Former Poteau and current Stilwell wrestling coach Chris Barbee was awarded with the Outstanding Achievement Award by OCA for his 15 years of service during the All-State Wrestling Matches at Bixby High School. The East dominated the West 45-6.
Those interested in being a 2014 Poteau Bandit Football League football team or cheerleading coach are urged to attend an organization meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Poteau City Hall.

Arkoma High School athletics announces the 2014-15 parents/guardians meeting 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Arkoma Events Center to officially present all paperwork necessary to participate in sports.
All athletes going in to 7 through 12 grade must be represented at the meeting.
It all started July 23 when Richard Reif picked me up at 4 a.m. and drove to Tulsa to pick up Richard's brother, Jim, as we were on our way for the opening of the 2014 Green Bay Packers training camp as well as run in The Packer 5k at Lambeau Field.
We got to St. Louis by noon on July 23 so we could eat lunch at Cousin Hugo's, which is our traditional lunch stop on our annual trip to Green Bay so we can enjoy its wings and burgers.
After lunch, we arrived at Brad Kraemer's house in Prairie du Sac, Wisc., at about 8 p.m. It only took us 16 hours to get from here to there.
Thomas Richard Lample, 51, of Spiro died Monday, July 28, 2014.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark., under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Bertha Alexander, 88 of Poteau, formerly of Farris died Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at Heavener.
Bertha was born Aug. 23, 1925, to John and Cora (Ethel) Bloyd in Darwin.
She attended school at Lone Pine and was a waitress. She married Lee Alexander on Aug. 13, 1943, at Atoka.
Bertha attended Monroe Baptist Church. She loved bowling, fishing, crocheting and crafts.
Florene â€śFloâ€ť Bowman of Heavener was born July 12, 1918, in Heavener to the late William Wallace Oliver and Sarah Melissa (Call) Oliver and departed this life on July 30, 2014 in Poteau at the age of 96.
She is survived by her daughters, Paula Fawn and Duncan Folino of Arroya Grandes, Calif., Betty Lou and Alexander Cooper of Poteau; daughter-in-law, Eva â€śBootieâ€ť Bullard Alexander; three grandchildren,
Poteau Police are investigating [July 31 11:15 a.m.] a two car accident at the intersection of Grady and South Saddler. One of the vehicles is the Poteau City street sweeper. One person was being treated for injuries. Further information will published in the Friday edition of the Poteau Daily News.
