Freddie Don Fulmer, 67, of Pocola died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, in Pocola.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Evans Memorial Chapel, Pocola, with burial at 1 p.m, in the National Cemetery at Fort Smith, Ark. Family visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Pocola.

Marilyn Jean (Sheets) Johnston

Marilyn Jean (Sheets) Johnston, 79, formerly of Poteau peacefully entered into the presence of the Lord Jesus on Dec. 24, 2014, in Sapulpa.

Marilyn was born Dec. 2, 1935, in Alva to M.R. “Rex” Sheets and Grace (Korn) Sheets. Moving to Woodward, in 1946, she was raised and received most of her education there, graduating from Woodward High School. In 1954, She married Gary Johnston in Woodward. They moved to Poteau in 1962. During 24 years of marriage, three daughters were born.

Dr. Omer Joe Looper

Dr. Omer Joe Looper peacefully passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, surrounded by his family.

Joe was born Jan. 7, 1927, to Omer and Blanche Looper in Poteau. He attended The University of Georgia, University of Oklahoma and ultimately attained a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kansas City University of Osteopathic Medicine. Joe practiced family medicine in Heavener and Miami for many years. Joe was a Navy veteran, member of the American Legion, Lion’s Club and past president of the Oklahoma Osteopathic Medical Association.

New Years Extravaganza tomorrow

Be sure to stop by the Poteau Chamber of Commerce to pick up your tickets for the New Year's Eve Extravaganza tomorrow night.

Those who have purchased a VIP table may pick up their tickets at the chamber at their convenience. Tickets are $30 each for general admission and VIP tables that seat four are available at $150 each. General admission includes heavy hor d'oeuvres by master chefs from The Rock House Ristorante, music, dancing and party tables. VIP also includes cheese and cracker tray and table party favors.

Trooper pay raise among first new laws for 2015

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An across-the-board pay hike for state troopers is among several new state laws that take effect Jan. 1.

Although most new laws took effect on Nov. 1 or shortly after the governor's signature, about a dozen have an effective date that coincides with the calendar year.

The 2015 Pro Bowl roster was announced Tuesday. The Broncos led the league with nine players selected, followed by the Cowboys (six), Patriots, Seahawks, Steelers, Eagles and Colts (five each).

The Heavener Bi-State Holiday Festival will be Monday and Tuesday the newly refurbished Heavener Gym.
The complete schedule is listed at the end of this column.
Also, the Talihina teams will return to action Jan. 3, hitting the road for games against Preston.
