OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — Tony Romo paused to add up how long it would take to coddle his surgically repaired back on the first day of training camp.
The final tally for the 34-year-old Dallas Cowboys quarterback was about four hours.
Romo isn't worried about getting hit. He thinks he can play several more years, even joking Thursday that he'll still be taking snaps when he's 45.

BREAKING NEWS: Poteau fire and police respond to car fire

Fire and police responded to a car on fire at the Cavanal Scenic Expressway northbound exit and North Broadway Friday about 4 p.m.
No one was injured but traffic was detoured until the fire was extenguished.

Local athletes to be in 2014 All-State Games next week (UPDATED)

Nine LeFlore County athletes will get one more taste of high school competition next week in the 2014 Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Games, which will take place throughout the Tulsa metropolitan area beginning with Monday’s All-State Golf Tournament and ending with the All-State Football Game on Aug. 1.
Monday’s All-State Golf Tournament, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Catoosa’s Cherokee Hills Golf Club, will feature three locals — Poteau’s Hannah Ward and Connor Wheat along with Cameron’s Kody Whitehead, all of whom will be on the East team.

The Pocola High School Softball Booster Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday on the bleachers at the softball field.

Wolf-Pup Football sign ups will be at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Heavener High School cafeteria.
Those signing up will need to bring a copy of birth certificate along with the $60 entry fee.
The league is open to those who will be in grades three through six, and those signing up can attend any school.

Stephen Lanier Hensley

Stephen Lanier Hensley, 83, of Spiro died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Stephen was born on Oct. 20, 1930, in Brevard, N. C., to Floyd and Clara (Ducker) Hensley.
Stephen was a member of Victory Worship Center in Spiro and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. He retired from the U.S. Navy, serving his country for 20 years in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Stephen retired as sheriff’s deputy and undersheriff for LeFlore County. He also was head of security at Blue Ribbon Downs.  He loved his church family and enjoyed gardening, yard work and fishing.

DURANT, Okla. – Recently, two forestry team members returned from a 16-day stent in Arizona battling an intense fire on Apache lands. Prevention tech Joshua Bates and Wallace Kitchel, dozer operator, were dispatched to the fire due to the need for special fire fighting techniques.
