Spiro shooting suspect found

The suspect in a Saturday shooting in Spiro that sent one man to the hospital has been jailed, according to LeFlore County Sheriff Rob Seale.

Felisha Louann Carshall, 23, is accused of shooting Tyler Dunnigan in the head. He survived and was treated, released, and now is in custody for warrants.

Seale said Carshall was found Monday and jailed in Fort Smith, Ark.

Charges were not filed against Carshall in LeFlore County as of Monday afternoon.

EDITOR'S NOTE: On April 19, 1995, a former U.S. Army soldier parked a rented Ryder truck packed with explosives outside a federal building in Oklahoma City. The blast killed 168 people and injured more than 500 others, and the attack is the worst homegrown terror attack on American soil.

The bombing came only two years after the first attack on the World Trade Center.

Spiro man injured in shooting

A Spiro man is recovering after being shot Saturday [April 18].
The LeFlore County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident.
The man was reportedly shot in the head.
According to the Sheriff's Office, a woman known by the victim is believed to be the shooter.
The man was taken by LeFlore County Emergency Medical Services to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Ark. He since has been treated and released. Names of the two have not yet been released.
No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting.

Severe weather chance Sunday

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, thunderstorms are set to increase over eastern Oklahoma this afternoon, strongest storms developing southeast of Interstate 44.

The strongest storms are expected to have large hail (around 2 inches).

There is also a limited tornado risk, NWS said,, into this afternoon in both southeastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. The risk will end as the cold front goes through the area.

Severe changes for hail are between 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. and limited tornado risk from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Several baseball teams named district hosts in Classes 4A, 3A, 2A; Poteau Lady Pirates sent to Jenks for 6A Regional Tournament

Several LeFlore County baseball teams in Classes 4A, 3A and 2A got good news from the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association on Friday afternoon as they were named district tournament hosts for the upcoming start to postseason play later this month.
In Class 4A, the Poteau Pirates will entertain the Muldrow Bulldogs at Town Creek Park.
Both local Class 3A teams, the Heavener Wolves and the Spiro Bulldogs, were named district hosts. The Wolves will welcome the Idabel Warriors to town, while the Bulldogs will entertain the Wilburton Diggers.

Howe baseball player signs with Eastern Oklahoma State College

An old adage says, “Go west, young man.” However, for Howe baseball player Chase Blake, he'll be going east — and in Eastern Oklahoma State College.
The senior pitching ace of the Lions signed a letter of intent with the EOSC Mountaineers in a signing ceremony Friday morning inside the Howe Gym.
“I'm very ecstatic about this,” Blake said. “I'm looking forward to it, and I have been for about a week now. I've been waiting on this day for a while. What I'm really looking forward to is showing them that I can help them out quite a bit.”

One dead in morning accident outside Poteau

April 17, 2015

One person has died following a head-on collision on Oklahoma Highway 112 outside Poteau. The accident occurred around 8:45 a.m. Friday morning.

Traffic was backed up for roughly 15-30 minutes both ways while crews worked the scene.

One driver was hospitalized, according to first responders. The identities of those involved have not been released yet. More information will be posted when it becomes available.
