LeFlore County under significant weather advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a significant weather advisory [ 3 p.m. June 20] for LeFlore County. Strong storms will affect the area until 3:30 p.m.
The storms will be capable of producing strong wind gusts and dime size hail

Convicted murderer returns to court

June 20, 2014

Christopher Kenyon Simpson, convicted of the 2013 Easter Sunday double slaying of 20-year-old Ka'Loni Flynn and her unborn child.
Flynn was found shot to death in her car on McGinnis Lane near Spiro.
Simpson's court appearance today [June 20] at 1:30 p.m. in the LeFlore County Courthouse is in regard to his appeal at the state level.
Simpson was convicted in October and given two life sentences in November.

The Wolf Ridge Junior Golf Clinic will take place the next two Wednesday afternoons at Wolf Ridge Country Club.
The clinic is open to youth ages 5 and older. The clinic for ages 5 to 17 will be from 4 to 5 p.m. every Wednesday for the next four weeks. Cost is $10 per golfer per session.
The clinic for ages 18 and older will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday for four weeks. Cost is $20 per golfer per session.

New Talihina girls basketball coach is coming back home

An old agage says, “Persistence pays off.” It did for Cindy James.
James waited and finally got her dream job at her alma mater — coaching the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers basketball team.
“I’ve been trying to get back to Talihina for years,” said James, who is taking over the reigns from Will Seymour who is going to become assistant boys basketball coach with the Golden Tigers. “I graduated from there in 1974. I’m really excited about it. I’m looking forward to it. We’ve got some good girls, and I think we have a lot to look forward to.”

My teary-eyed visit to Bass Pro Shops

I got to go to Bass Pro Shops in Broken Arrow on Saturday for Father's Day Weekend. My son, Jacques, was at the National Football Association Football Camp at Jenks. My wife, Jenny, dropped me off and went to Woodland Hills Mall.
As I walked in the store, I teared up because I knew I had two hours inside all by myself. As I walked through the doors, I was wiping the tears out of my eyes when I heard a lady named Debbie ask me, “Why are you crying?” I just said, “I love this place.”

Edna Smith, 91, of Santa Maria, Calif., formerly of Spiro died Saturday, June 7, 2014.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at First Baptist Church in Spiro. Burial will be in Spiro City Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
