Local softball players play in Slow-Pitch All-State Games

EDMOND — Pocola's Taylor Farley and Heavener's Savannah Steelman played in the 2014 Oklahoma Slow-Pitch Softball Coaches Association All-State Games on Saturday at Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts.
Farley went 3-for-3 with a run batted in and scored twice as the Middle East routed the Middle West 21-4.
Steelman walked in three plate appearances and scored a run as the Large East handled the Large West 17-9.

Betty Lanning, 86, of Talihina died Monday, June 16, 2014, at Talihina Manor Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 20, at the New Talihina Cemetery under the direction of Burkhart’s Funeral Service.

Joyce Fine, 61, of Albion died Friday, June 13, 2014, in Talihina.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 19, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Burial will be in Albion Cemetery under the direction of Burkhart’s Funeral Service, Talihina.

Marie Emmetts, 84, of Talihina died Saturday, June 14, 2014, in Muskogee.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, at the St. Catherine’s of Siena Church under the direction of Burkhart’s Funeral Service, Talihina.

William “Bill” Greb, 63, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Monday, June 16, 2014.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro with burial in Garland Cemetery, Stigler. Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

James “Jim” Foster, 86, of Spiro died Friday, June 13.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro.

Wanda L. Doty

June 17, 2014

Wanda L. Doty, 85, of Poteau and The Oaks Healthcare Center, died Thursday, May 29, 2014. She was born in Bloomington, Ill., on Aug. 20, 1928, to Arthur Lee and Margurite Anna Daney. Wanda was very proud to be of the Choctaw heritage and was a very religious person.
Her education included master’s degrees in education and counseling and she completed all class work towards her doctorate degree. Most of her career was spent teaching and counseling Native American students.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
