Two Poteau Youth Wrestling Club members placed in last weekend's Sapulpa Tournament. Maverick Wooten was runner-up at 55 pounds in Division III and was third at 55 pounds in Division II, while Tyler Fassio was third at 83 pounds in Division II. A third member, Will Jordan, competed at 49 pounds in Division II.
PYWC member Luke Brooks participated in the Sand Springs Open.
It was a banner way for the Poteau Pirates wrestling team to end its pre-Christmas portion of its season as they won their own tournament, the â€śBorder Brawl,â€ť which took place Friday and Saturday at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The Pirates had 181 points, with Greenwood, Ark, a distant second (144 points). Five Poteau wrestlers won titles.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) â€” Weather forecasters say snow could fall on parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas on Christmas Eve.
The National Weather Service in Tulsa says areas of light rain and snow are expected to develop Tuesday night, mainly across portions of northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas.
STILWELL â€” A fast start helped the Stilwell Lady Indians to get a 91-78 home victory over the Poteau Lady Pirates on Friday night.
The Lady Indians jumped out to a 25-13 lead after a period, but the Lady Pirates used a 23-18 second quarter to cut the deficit to 43-36 at halftime.
Stilwell outscored Poteau 24-16 in the third quarter to up its lead to 67-52 going into the final period.
Heavener 57, Idabel 55: Saturday afternoon in Heavener, the Lady Wolves won their home opener, but they had to do it in dramatic fashion.
STILWELL â€” The Poteau Pirates could not make it a perfect week to end their pre-Christmas portion of their season as they suffered a 63-32 road loss to the Stilwell Indians on Friday night.
The Indians took an 18-5 lead after a period and never looked back.
Spiro 68, Sallisaw 50: Friday night in Spiro, the Bulldogs made it 2-for-2 for the week to enter the Christmas break on a high note. However, the â€™Dogs had to rally to do so.
The Black Diamonds had a 17-16 lead with 5:24 left before halftime, but the Bulldogs ended the game with a 52-33 run.
The Arkoma High School basketball teams split their final games before the Christmas break Friday night in Keota. The Lady Mustangs defeated the Lady Lions 70-51, but the Lions beat the Mustangs 64-50 in the final game of the night.
