Oklahoma school ordered to repay about $1M in student aid

MCALESTER, Okla. (AP) — Eastern Oklahoma State College has been ordered to repay the federal government more than $1 million after some students received student aid when they were not eligible.

The school said Thursday that it will appeal some of findings in the U.S. Department of Education's March 2014 review of its student aid program, the McAlester News-Capital (http://bit.ly/1UgGgBm ) reported.

Spiro Lady Bulldogs garner top seed for next week’s LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament, which starts Monday at PARC

At Wednesday night’s seeding meeting at Western Sizzlin’, Spiro was the unanimous selection to be the top seed of the 2015 LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament, with Pocola getting the second seed. Seeds three through 13 went to Wister, Heavener, Poteau, Howe, Cameron, Whitesboro, Panama, Leflore, Talihina, Arkoma and Bokoshe, respectively.
The county tournament will begin Monday at the Poteau Area Recreational Area.

Local football teams in final scrimmages tonight

Five LeFlore County football schools will have their final preseason scrimmages tonight.
Panama will visit Heavener at 6:30 p.m.; Spiro will join Hugo and Okmulgee at Pocola at 6 p.m. and Arkoma will join Canadian at Webbers Falls at 6 p.m.

Talihina will get strong test in tonight’s scrimmage at Hartshorne with Morris

The Talihina Golden Tigers scored six touchdowns in their first 29 plays in last Thursday night’s scrimmage at Valliant, and 13 TDs overall. However, tonight will be a tougher test when they scrimmage against the Hartshorne Miners and the Morris Eagles at 6:30 tonight in Hartshorne.

Bokoshe Tigers to get only scrimmage tonight at Keota with Depew Hornets

The good news for the Bokoshe Tigers so far this preseason is that they haven’t scrimmaged anybody yet.
That will all change tonight when the Tigers get their one and only scrimmage of the preseason when they travel to meet the Keota Lions and the Depew Hornets at 6 p.m. in Keota.

The Poteau Pirates will have one last chance to take care of the chinks in the armor before meeting the Durant Lions in the Sept. 4 season-opener. That chance will come at 5 p.m. Thursday in a four-way scrimmage at the home of the Class 4A defending champion Wagoner Bulldogs. The Hilldale Hornets and the Tahlequah Tigers will also be in the scrimmage.

Walk-off HR lifts Wister past Red Oak in CASC Classic finals

It took until Monday night to finish the 20th annual Carl Albert State College Fall Classic, but the Wister Wildcats won't mind — especially since they won it.
Sophomore Cash Balentine hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the eighth inning to lift the ’Cats to a 4-2 victory over the Red Oak Eagles in Monday night's finals in Red Oak.
