WILBURTON — The Talihina Golden Tigers opened their season Saturday afternoon with a 14-1, five-inning, run-rule victory over the Wilburton Diggers.
With the game tied at 1-1, the Golden Tigers broke the tie with a four-run third inning and a nine-run fourth inning.
Austin Lawson got the win, pitching a one-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Wilburton 8, Cameron 7: Friday afternoon in Wilburton, the Yellowjackets suffered their first loss of the season as the Diggers scored two runs in the home half of the seventh inning to get the win.
TONKAWA — The Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Lady Mavericks took a pair of softball games from the Carl Albert State College LadyVikings Saturday afternoon by scores of 4-0 and 3-2 in an eight-inning contest.
The Lady Vikings will have back-to-back doubleheaders this week. This afternoon, they will entertain Rose State College in a 2 p.m. twinbill, then will welcome Western Oklahoma State College to town for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday.
While we had a few baseball and softball teams open their seasons late last week, the rest of those teams who haven't yet will do so this week.

The Wister Wildcats, beginning the defnse of their Class 2A state championship, will face the Elgin Owls at 7 p.m. Friday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
Whitesboro Games Canceled This Week
Due to the tragic death of Whitesboro Boys Basketball Coach Wayne Tucker, the school has canceled all its baseball and softball games this week.

Kimberly Dawn Whitaker, 34, of Spiro died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012. Services will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Mallory-Martn Funeral Home, with burial in Spiro City Cemetery.
Ronald Wayne Tucker Jr., 30, of Muse died in a car accident Saturday, March 3, 2012. Tucker was the Whitesboro basketball coach and assistant baseball coach. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 8, at the Whitesboro School Auditorium. Burial will be in Albion Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.
Betty J. Simpson, 75, of Spiro died Friday, March 2, 2012. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel, Spiro.
