Book by former Poteau resident named best seller

An author whose latest book was named to USA Today's best seller list for her novel A Seal in Wolf's Clothing not only has ties to Poteau but began her writing career during her time as a local resident.
Terry Spear, formerly of Poteau, began writing 20 years ago as a children's novelist when teaching her children to read led her on journalistic journey to her current fame.

Mother Nature's wrath has already been felt. Due to rain showers Tuesday and today, the 2012 Poteau Wood Bat Festival will not begin until Thursday and end on Saturday.
Besides the host Pirates, several other LeFlore County teams will be in the field — Cameron, Heavener and Panama.

Heavener splits three-way with Buffalo Valley, Antlers

BUFFALO VALLEY — The Heavener Wolves baseball team split its games in Monday afternoon's three-way. The Wolves beat the host Buffalo Valley Buffaloes 5-3, but lost to the Antlers Bearcats 7-2.

Talihina boys split first two games in 2012 Broken Bow Tournament; Tuesday's game vs. Ashdown, Ark., rained out; rest of tournament canceled

IDABEL — The Talihina Golden Tigers baseball team split its first two games in the 2012 Broken Bow Tournament on Monday.
Talihina ended the day with a 16-3 run-rule win over the Caddo Bruins after being humbled by the Idabel Warriors 8-2.
The Golden Tigers (4-4) were slated to meet their final pool play game Tuesday afternoon against Ashdown, Ark., but the game was rained out. In fact, the rest of the tournament was canceled.

Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2012 Poteau High School Sports Hall of Fame.
Categories include: football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls track, boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls all-around athlete, wrestling, coaching and support and service.
The deadline to submit nominations is March 30.

Ronnie Hollie

Ronnie Hollie, 68, of Bokoshe  entered the Lord’s kingdom on March 19, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Ronnie was born October 18, 1943 in Henry, to Charles Cyril and Gladys Bernice (Cheshier) Hollie. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Sharon Stiles and Linda Stark. Ronnie was a U.S. veteran, mechanic, chicken farmer and cattleman. He was a member of the Bokoshe Church of Christ.

Joe Boyd “J.B.” Hayes, 89, of Pocola died Sunday, March 18, 2012, in Pocola. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 22, in Evans Memorial Chapel, Pocola. Burial will be in Spiro City Cemetery — Garden of Memories, under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Pocola.
