It was a good night of Poteau football Thursday night at Costner Stadium. The Poteau Pirates freshmen posted a 14-6 victory over the Muldrow Bulldogs to end the night of three wins by the locals.
That was preceded by the Pansy Kidd Middle School eighth-graders beating the Bulldogs 22-16.
The tripleheader began with the seventh-grade Raiders posting a 40-6 rout on the ’Dogs.
All three teams will return to action next Thursday against Sallisaw at Costner Stadium. The seventh-grade game will be at 5 p.m., followed by the eighth-grade contest and the freshmen game.
CAMERON — The Arkoma Lady Mustangs softball team was on the cusp of history, winning its first-ever fast-pitch softball district title. They needed only one win to do it, but the Howe Lady Lions also wanted it and clawed their way to two victories to get it.
Facing elimination all day Thursday in the Class A District Tournament, the Lady Lions had to beat the Lady Mustangs twice to win the district title, and that's exactly what they did, winning by scores of 5-2 and 6-2.
HEAVENER — The Heavener Lady Wolves swept their way past the Spiro Lady Bulldogs to win the Class 3A District Tournament on Thursday, winning by scores of 12-0 and 18-2.

The Lady Bulldogs end the season at 10-14.
POCOLA — Nothing like doing things the hard way. Just ask the Pocola Lady Indians.
After losing the first game of the Class 2A District Tournament to Sallisaw-Central on Thursday afternoon, the Lady Indians staved off elimination twice. The last time gave them the district title as the Lady Indians blanked the Lady Tigers 6-0 in Friday afternoon's winner-take-all game.
The two teams split Thursday's games, with Sallisaw-Central taking the opener 3-2 and Pocola the nightcap 9-7.
BUFFALO VALLEY — The 2013 fast-pitch softball season came to an end for the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs as they suffered a pair of loses to the Buffalo Valley Lady Buffaloes by scores of 4-1 and 10-6 in the Class B District Tournament on Thursday.
The Lady Bulldogs finish the season at 10-16.
WEBBERS FALLS — The Bokoshe Tigers will have to wait until next week to get win No. 1 on the 2013 season.
The Tigers suffered a 48-0 loss to the Webbers Falls Warriors in District C-4 game. The contest was called at halftime due to the mercy rule, where if a team in 8-man football is up by 45 points or more at halftime or at anytime in the second half the game is automatically stopped at that point.
A scrappy Heavener Wolves team faced off against the homestanding Valliant Bulldogs Friday and came home with a hard-fought 20-16 loss.
VIAN — It was a rough start to the District 2A-6 season for the Pocola Indians on Friday night as they lost 59-0 to the homestanding Vian Wolverines.
SPIRO — Leading 17-14 with 1:18 left to play, Frankie Solomon and Trevon Mitchem combined to stop Stigler quarterback Seth Sandlin on fourth down at the Panthers' 42 and led the Spiro Bulldogs to a hard-fought District 3A-8 opening win.
Each team had the ball three times in the final quarter, but neither team scored.
TALIHINA — The Talihina Golden Tigers smashed the Quinton Savages in a 58-7 homecoming battle Friday night at Doc Robinson Stadium after opening the first quarter with a 28-point barrage.
