Runestone Viking/Celtic Festival entertainers announced

Celtic Cheer perfectly describes Timothy O’Brian’s Celtic Cheer Band which will be performing at the Runestone Viking/Celtic Festival on April 20-21 at Runestone Park in Heavener.
 Once described as “joyous noise” by the Tulsa World, Timothy O’Brian’s Celtic Cheer has made thousands of fans lives, well … more cheerful by entertaining them in a broad variety of venues from the Oklahoma House of Representatives, Tulsa Scottish Festival, Blue Grass Chili Festival, Oklahoma City’s St. Patrick’s Day events, Tulsa, Eureka Springs, Claremore, and many other large scale events.

Clothing giveaway scheduled for Friday

Witte Street General Store will hold a clothing giveaway in front of the store at 104 N. Witte from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, according to owner Darleen Seaman.
Poteau Main Street Matters is lending tables for the event, Seaman said.
"No questions, no forms to fill out — just come pick up some very nice clothes and shows," she said.
A variety of items in all sizes will be available. Free coffee and Bibles also will be given out, Seaman said.

Poteau girls force if-game, but come in second at Red Oak Tournament

RED OAK — The Poteau Lady Pirates almost did it the hard way to win the Red Oak Tournament on Friday afternoon — but the key word was almost.
After winning the first title game 4-3 over the host Lady Eagles, Red Oak beat Poteau 9-1 in the second title game to win its own tournament.
The Lady Pirates lost their first game 8-3 to Wister, but beat Pocola 13-2, Wister 10-2, McCurtain 11-1 and Panama 13-0 to reach the championship game.

It’s County Baseball Tournament Week; Next week is the slow-pitch county tournament at PARC

Ready for two weeks of county tournaments? The first one is here now as the LeFlore County Baseball Tournament started Monday at three sites — tournament-host Cameron, Pocola and Poteau. Due to Tuesday's rain, the tournament's title game will not be until 1 p.m. Sunday at Cameron, with the if-game at 3 p.m.
The LeFlore County Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament will be begin Monday at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex and conclude with the title game on April 11.

Mildred S. Buttress

Mildred S. Buttress, 99, of Poteau died Saturday, March 30, 2013, in Poteau. Mildred was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Cameron to Guy and Arra (Brassfield) Buttress. She was retired from the Veterans Administration in Muskogee, where she worked in medical records. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Poteau. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jackie Gene Buttress.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Angel Raziel Hudson

Angel Raziel Hudson of Howe died Sunday, March 31, 2013, in Howe. He was 2.
Angel is survived by his mother, Antonia “Cheyenne” Hudson; father, Michael Oswald; step-father Steven Butcher; grandparents, Nina Ahmed, Antonio Flores, Jay and Scarlett Butcher, Kathy Leon and Robin Oswald; great-grandpaernts, Barbara Hudson, Alan Oswald and Shirley Williams; seven uncles; nine aunts; five great-uncles; six great-aunts; and many cousins.
A Choctaw wake will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, in the home at 39978 Oklahoma Highway 59 in Howe.

David Ragan, 57, of Talihina died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at his home.Graveside services were held Monday, April 1, in New Talihina Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.

Wister boys beat Poteau, Jay in Poteau Festival; Wildcat pitcher strikes out 14 Bulldog batters; ’Dogs beat Pirates

Despite rainy conditions Friday afternoon and early evening, Poteau's three-game festival got to take place at Town Creek Park. Unfortunately, the day and evening were not good for the home team.
The Wister Wildcats got a run in the seventh inning to rally for a 5-4 win over the Pirates, who lost the first game of the day to the Jay Bulldogs by the score of 9-4.
The middle game also went to the Wildcats as Wister pitcher and Seminole State College signee Tyler Gibson struck out 14 Jay batters as the ’Cats beat the ’Dogs 8-2.

Rose State baseball team sweeps Friday's twinbill from Carl Albert; Saturday's Connors State game rained out, rescheduled for April 22; today's home twinbill vs. Northeast Texas also rained out (UPDATED)

The good news was the Carl Albert State College Vikings baseball team beat Friday's rain to get its home doubleheader played against Rose State College at Ival Goodman Field. Unfortunately, the weather was the only thing the Vikings were able to beat as the Raiders swept Friday afternoon's twinbill by scores of 6-3 and 9-0.
Carl Albert's single, nine-inning game against Connors State College at Ival Goodman Field was rained out, and it has been rescheduled for 3 p.m. April 22. Also, CASC has rescheduled the road doubleheader against Arkansas Baptist for 3 p.m. next Tuesday in Little Rock.
